ABC7
— White House corps toasts press freedom; Trump a no-show – CNN
http://abc7chicago.com/politics/white-house-corps-toasts-press-freedom;-trump-a-no-show/3403793/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Trump, however, has had a notably contentious relationship with the media. The President routinely argues that he receives unfair media coverage and denounces “fake news.” He has even labeled the media the “enemy of the American people.” Earlier this month, the White House Correspondents’ Association, which represents the White House press corps, put out a statement saying that the White House had informed the association that the President would not be attending the dinner in 2018. The statement said, however, that White House press secretary Sarah Sanders will attend the event to represent the administration and that the President “will actively encourage members of the executive branch to attend and join us as we celebrate the First Amendment.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Congressional town halls: Old-fashioned and inefficient or vital to the fabric of democracy? – Erin Hegarty (DIERSEN: Ever increasingly, at town halls, Democrats make it clear that they want Republicans to get rid of individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, draft avoiders, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/news/ct-nvs-town-hall-constituent-meetings-st-0429-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam found himself in the national spotlight last year after critics said he refused to meet with constituents and dodged requests to hold a town-hall style public meeting. Roskam, however, dismissed the traditional in-person format as unproductive and boasted of his ability to reach far more people via convenient telephone town halls, which are arranged by his campaign. As election season returns. so does the debate over the way candidates communicate with voters. . .Roskam, of Wheaton, has been in office since 2007 and conducts tele-town halls once a month. The system auto-dials people in the district and invites them to join the call to listen or get in a queue for the chance to ask a question. While there is generally a specific topic assigned for each event, Roskam does not limit the questions to the theme. In a typical call, about a dozen people get the chance to ask questions. The calls allow Roskam’s office to “reach people where they are, in their homes, while maintaining the one-on-one, personal interactions,” according to Roskam’s office. Roskam has taken calls from both supporters and critics during the forums, which are arranged via his campaign website, roskamforcongress.com. “In these meetings, we engage in open dialogue where they share their perspective,” Roskam said. “Reasonable people can disagree, and I’ve met with people from all different walks of life holding many different views on any number of issues.” Roskam’s challenger in the November election, Democrat Sean Casten, a businessman from Downers Grove, is pushing the sitting congressman to engage in more public in-person forums. Instead, Roskam quickly called for a series of debates the day after Casten was declared winner of the March Democratic primary. . .U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren has conducted meetings with veterans and other town halls, including one in St. Charles last year that attracted about 750 supporters and opponents. But Cindy Mundell, a 67-year-old Naperville resident, has lobbied Hultgren of Plano, to hold more in-person town halls. “He is supposed to be listening to and representing us,” Mundell said. “He claims the majority of his constituents approve the way he votes, and I feel that is unlikely.” Democrat Lauren Underwood is challenging Hultgren in the general election.)

DAILY HERALD
— The expensive risk College of DuPage has placed on taxpayers – Editorial (DIERSEN: How bad do your critics/opponents paint you as being? My critics/opponents paint me as being far worse than Breuder. Of course, they side with my Democrat superiors in the federal government and all the adverse actions that they took against me. My Democrat superiors in the federal government spent far more taxpayer dollars than $527,600 to waste my career and to get rid of me.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20180428/editorial-the-expensive-risk-college-of-dupage-has-placed-on-taxpayers-
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It was almost three years ago that we warned that the College of DuPage Board was risking the public’s money in what we described as its “obsessive and oddly venomous” fixation with the destruction of onetime-president Robert Breuder. While allowing that reasonable people could disagree with Breuder’s style and performance, we also noted that his successor Joseph Collins conceded the controversies that enveloped him were “exaggerated” and his board nemesis Kathy Hamilton acknowledged they were “political.” . . .The legal case has yet to play out so theoretically, we suppose, the college could still win that gamble. But as of our latest tabulation in January, the college’s legal bills in the case had already reached $527,600 and who knows if that’s all of it. Transparency, thy name has not been COD when it comes to all the costs. What we do know is that those bills are going to climb considerably higher. And if the college loses, it not only would be on the hook for whatever damages Breuder wins but most likely also his legal bills as well as the college’s. It’s possible the college’s insurance will pay much of the legal bills. Comforting, although if so, it undoubtedly would affect its future premiums. But it’s also possible its insurer could end up challenging its responsibility if it’s found that the college egregiously mistreated Breuder.)

— Facebook’s handpicked watchdogs gave it high marks for privacy – Tony Romm (DIERSEN: GAO audits IRS. One would expect that my Democrat IRS superiors did not want GAO to assign me to audits of IRS. I transferred from IRS to GAO in 1980. My IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180428/analysis-facebooks-handpicked-watchdogs-gave-it-high-marks-for-privacy
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Facebook’s mishandling of its users’ personal information prompted stiff penalties from the U.S. government in 2011 — including a requirement that the social giant submit to regular privacy checkups for the next two decades. However, Facebook got to handpick its own reviewers, global accounting firm PwC, which didn’t appear to catch marketers, political consultants and malicious actors as they tapped public and private profile data on Facebook without users’ permission or knowledge, even years after the social giant’s first major privacy mishap.)

DAILY HERALD
— Such a deal at election board – Bob Peickert, Chair, Democratic Party of DuPage County, Lombard
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20180428/such-a-deal-at-election-board
(FROM THE LETTER: I attended the meeting of the DuPage County Election Commission on April 9. The meeting lasted 23 minutes. The Board of Commissioners covered the following: the pledge, approval of voting results presented by the executive director, approval of a $240 moving charge, approval of the minutes from the last meeting, and they heard a brief presentation by the executive director. Based on their annual salary of $27,500, that comes to $2,291 per hour. If we call it an even half-hour, that comes out to $4,582 for their services. How many of you make $4,582 for 30 minutes of work? Additionally, Dan Cronin boasts about a bipartisan board. Does anything above look like a partisan issue? No. And all other election commission matters aren’t partisan either. If they were, I’d be getting calls from the Democrat on the commission. I never got one. These three commissioners, even the Democrat, are appointed by Dan Cronin, a Republican. He rewards them with a salary of $27,500 to go to one meeting a month. And the Republicans in DuPage complain about Chicago or Springfield.)
— DuPage County department gets new ‘Animal Services’ name – Robert Sanchez (DIERSEN: I hope that this department focuses stopping dog neglect and dog abuse. If pot is legalized in Illinois, more and more and more people in Illinois will become brain damaged and wards of the state.)
http://www.wnd.com/2018/04/when-stupidity-actually-had-consequences/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Did you know stupidity is a choice? Yes really. In the vast majority of situations, it’s up to us to decide whether to do something smart or something dumb. If you have debt up to your eyeballs, why do you keep eating in restaurants and using your credit card to pay for expensive meals? If you’re pulled over by a cop for going 45 in a 25 zone, why do you cuss him out and act like it’s his fault you were speeding? If you’re dating a womanizing jerk, why do you marry him despite knowing of his behavior? Look, we’ve all done stupid things in life. No one walks on water and we’re only human. But smart people – try to grasp this concept – learn from their mistakes. But there’s a monkey wrench in what might otherwise be a simple matter of cause-and-effect in which people learn from mistakes and don’t repeat them: The government intervenes. Seriously, the government is so busy rescuing people from their own stupidity that consequences no longer matter when people do something foolish.)

— Why a ‘federal jobs guarantee’ is gaining steam with Democrats – Greg Krieg (DIERSEN: What bad jobs have you had? All the jobs that I had were extremely bad. They were so bad that my superiors had an extremely hard time finding Democrats, minorities, females, younger people, and veterans who would take them. I did yard work and delivered newspapers 1962-1964; washed dishes 1964-1966; cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline in 1966; delivered mail 1966-1969; worked on an automobile assembly line and as a security guard in 1970; sold tires, automotive services, and major appliances 1970-1971; pumped gasoline 1971-1972; collected delinquent taxes 1971-1980; and audited federal agencies 1980-1997. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. When will Andrzejewski write about patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation? )

KANE COUNTY REPORTER
— Illinois Republican Party needs a “uniter,” Bond says – Olivia Olsen
https://kanecountyreporter.com/stories/511400952-illinois-republican-party-needs-a-uniter-bond-says
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “I am very concerned about my friend and state central colleague Bob Winchester and the allegations of election impropriety related to his being unseated,” Bond said. “Those allegations are serious and deserve a full and fair hearing.” Speculation points to the party’s current leadership under Chairman Timothy Schnieder and even the state’s Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner as the origin of the party’s current state. “I think we also have to take an honest look at what caused our divisions and respect them,” Bond said. “We need a uniter and not a divider.” Many within the party believe Mark Shaw, chairman of the Lake County GOP, is a strong contender for Schneider’s seat. Bond expressed high praise for Shaw and his potential action plan. “Mark Shaw is the current highly successful Chairman of the Lake County Republican Central Committee and handed to me five years ago his ideas for a strategic party business plan,” Bond said. “I still have that plan and it is every bit as needed today as it was five years ago.”)

CAPITOL FAX
— Circular firing squad: State GOP committeeman vote disputed
https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/27/circular-firing-squad-state-gop-committeeman-vote-disputed/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As it stands now, the opposition believes incumbent chairman Schneider has a 51.5-48.5 lead over Lake County’s Shaw if Sen. Rose is declared the victor and former party chairman Jack Dorgan votes for Schneider as well (and that’ll be an interesting moment if Rauner’s chairman is saved by a – gasp – Statehouse lobbyist). But Rose’s district appears to have enough weighted votes that Shaw will likely beat Schneider if Winchester is seated (barring any flippers). Winchester is being represented by a lawyer at Tony Peraica’s law firm. His letter to the state party is here. The attorney’s letter to the Illinois State Board of Elections is here.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: IL-06 — National Democrats are showing signs of confidence about their pickup opportunities in Illinois’ 6th district, where U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., is in their sights. Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is moving Democrat Sean Casten into its Red to Blue program, saying he had earned a spot “by surpassing aggressive goals for grassroots engagement, local support, campaign organization and fundraising.” Along with the designation comes resources and training, courtesy of the DCCC. Candidates in Illinois 12 (Brendan Kelly) 13 (Betsy Dirksen Londrigan) and 14 (Lauren Underwood) are already in the program. . .National Journal is the latest to declare Gov. Bruce Rauner vulnerable in November. The governor moved from 5th to first most vulnerable: Zach C. Cohen and Kyle Trygstad write: “Illinois—Bruce Rauner (R) (Previous ranking: 5) Rauner is the most vulnerable governor, and his seat is the Democrats’ best pickup opportunity. Democratic nominee J.B. Pritzker won 200,000 more votes in his decisive March primary than Rauner, who won renomination by just 2 points. The latest polling puts Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt fortune, up 18 points in a state that Hillary Clinton won by a similar margin, and his odds further improved when Rauner’s alienation of the Right led to a third-party challenge from GOP state Sen. Sam McCann. But both wealthy nominees, who have already spent a combined $131 million, have the time and resources to shift the race.)

I should write a book about the leading White anti-Whites in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois. Most, if not virtually all of them also demonize, denigrate, and condemn those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time TO CURRY FAVOR WITH THOSE WHO ARE anti-Trump supporters, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: His nomination was hampered by a flurry of allegations about Jackson’s professional conduct. In a statement announcing his withdrawal, Jackson slammed allegations of improper behavior leveled against him as “completely false and fabricated.” “If they had any merit, I would not have been selected, promoted and entrusted to serve in such a sensitive and important role as physician to three presidents over the past 12 years,” Jackson said. “Going into this process, I expected tough questions about how to best care for our veterans, but I did not expect to have to dignify baseless and anonymous attacks on my character and integrity.” Jackson said he was motivated to withdraw from consideration because the allegations against him “have become a distraction” for Trump and his agenda.)

BLOOMBERG
— To Save Democracy, This Economist Wants to Kill Its Core Principle Dambisa Moyo’s Edge of Chaos makes an argument for weighted voting—giving more voting power to the educated, and taking it away for others. – PETER COY (DIERSEN: How informed are the voters in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, in Illinois, and in America? Why do they vote? To vote for Democrats is to vote to get rid of individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-19/dambisa-moyo-edge-of-chaos-review
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As is often the case, though, Moyo’s solutions aren’t as persuasive as her diagnosis. If you think about it, even devoted democrats draw the line somewhere on ballot box access: The right to vote is generally denied to prisoners, children, noncitizens, and people judged mentally incompetent. But imagine the envy and anger that would be unleashed if voting power were based on profession or education. Who would decide how to divide the public into first-, second-, and third-class citizens? Would biology professors be certified as “highly qualified” but high school history teachers ranked “standard qualified”? What about journalists vs. carpenters vs. actors vs. the unemployed? And how much of the public would be consigned to the lowest tier of “unqualified” voters—would it be 1 percent or 10 percent or more? A civics test seems a more defensible way to implement weighted voting, but not really. It implicitly equates knowledge with good judgment, which experience tells us isn’t a sound equation. As the conservative writer William F. Buckley Jr. once said, “I’d rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.” In the end, Moyo comes across as a well-meaning meritocrat. Democracy has its flaws, all right, but elitism isn’t the way to cure them.)

What percent of voters vote for a candidate because that candidate promises to use government to get rid of those individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time?)

They dismiss/belittle/badmouth/demonize/denigrate/condemn the fact a) that much of what GAO Analysts do is very similar to what journalists do, and that I worked for GAO for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325 and b) that I have been the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000. Instead, they stress a) that I do not have a degree in journalism, b) that no one pays me for what I do as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor, c) that GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are free and do not contain any advertising or pictures, and d) that certain people who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in DuPage County, and in Illinois shout that I am NOT a journalist. Inconsistently, outrageously, many of the aforesaid at the same time hint/imply/argue/shout that I AM A JOURNALIST, AND THEREFORE, I SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO: a) be a Republican Precinct Committeeman, b) be a Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC), DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC), or Illinois Republican Party (IRP) officer, and c) attend MTRCC, DCRCC, or IRP events that are closed to journalists.)
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Part of the difficulty in any kind of certification is the notoriously independent nature of many attracted to the craft of journalism. Another is that even professional journalism organizations may be hard-pressed to agree on specifics of any credential, or be able to manage it when their membership ranks are in decline due to deep staffing cuts within traditional media organizations. “Professional journalists do, at nearly unanimous numbers, adhere to the professional standards of organizations like SPJ (Society of Professional Journalists ) and NPPA (National Press Photographers Association) and RTDNA (Radio Television Digital News Association), whether they have a certification that says so or not,” said Caley Cook, journalism lecturer at the University of Washington and an investigative and feature reporter. “I don’t think it hurts, really, to get a journalistic certification, but I don’t think an average news consumer is going to take one look at that and say, well I trust you now.” Those doubts are shared by SPJ Washington board member Daniel Person. “When you look at the sites/pages/accounts that are disseminating false information, there are all sorts of red flags suggesting that it’s not a reputable source: goofy URLs, lack of citation, bad grammar, etc.,” Person, a former Seattle Weekly editor, said. “Yet people seem willing to blow past these caution signs so long as the ‘news’ they are reporting confirms their worldview … If people are willing to share a story from SpicyAmericaNewz.Ru, what’s to say they’ll check the reporter’s credentials beforehand?” While there may be a place for some kind of voluntary certification for journalism newbies or freelancers who don’t belong to a professional media organization, Cook thinks a better solution lies beyond the outflow end of the story pipe. “When normal people truly don’t consider the source of their information or how it was gathered, we have a greater problem than certification of journalists could solve,” Cook said. Instead, she points to the oft-cited need for better media literacy, “what makes information reliable, how to question the source of information, media industrialization and consolidation, etc,” she said “I think you’d find this would have a far greater impact on the perception of ‘fake news’ than if you put that onus on the journalists.”)

https://www.smh.com.au/national/the-more-you-have-the-more-you-think-you-need-20180420-p4zatb.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In fact, the opposite is true – those on higher incomes felt they needed much more to alleviate their cost pressures than those on low incomes. Respondents who earned less than $35,000 a year (a little less than Australia’s full-time minimum wage) said they needed an extra $183 a week to alleviate cost of living pressures. But for those in the $75,000-100,000 income bracket that figure rose to $220 a week. And people taking home $100,000 or more a year required even more. That well-paid cohort said they needed $239 extra each week to ease the pressure, more than any other income group. But the responses to NAB’s “how much extra money do you need” question shows that for those on higher incomes the problem is a desire for a certain standard of living rather than a cost of living crisis.)

Further, I have enough time (10+ hours a day, 70+ hours a week, 300+ hours a month, 3,650+ hours a year, 36,500+ hours a decade) and money (thousands of dollars each year) to put the emails together and send them out each and every morning and each and every evening free of charge and without any advertising. The training glorifies and praises those who are NOT Protestant, NOT conservative, NOT patriotic, NOT Republican, NOT American, NOT White, NOT male, NOT older, NOT rich, NOT gun owners, NOT German American, and those whose ancestors have NOT been in America for a long time.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/lake-county-news-sun/news/ct-lns-waukegan-60-diversity-st-0421-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The teacher, who is white, retold the rhyme, using the racial slur, during a February vocabulary lesson, Alajakis said. A student then reported the teacher’s use of the slur to the school principal, Alajakis said. The teacher was pulled from the classroom during an investigation into the matter, and later temporarily suspended, Alajakis said. He also was ordered to take cultural sensitivity training and moved to another building, Alajakis said. The teacher has not yet completed the training because the district is still working to identify a course, Alajakis said. Nevertheless, the incident is emblematic of a larger problem at Waukegan District 60, retired Waukegan administrator Harlene Shipley said. District officials should place a greater focus on cultural diversity training so that teachers can better understand their pupils, Shipley said. As another example, Shipley also pointed to a group of former Waukegan High School students who had addressed the school board in February about providing training and specialized resources aimed at students living in the country without legal permission. They also spoke about district staff not understanding them and what they’re going through, Shipley said. If teachers underwent diversity and cultural awareness training they would be less likely to speak insensitively, to know where potential pitfalls existed and to find educational opportunities in cultural items such as the new “Black Panther” movie, Shipley said.)

I would suggest that instead of spending countless millions on radio and TV ads, polling data and opponent research, we post the Illinois governorship on eBay. The job appears headed to the highest bidder anyway.)

(FROM THE LETTER: It is ironic that the master architect of the tax cut, who significantly reduced the popular property tax deduction in the first place, would now promote himself as a champion of taxpayers’ rights. His use of taxpayer dollars to fund his self-promotion campaign is a double whammy for District 6 constituents. Roskam is tone deaf to his constituents’ views. Why does he think that all of those people waited in long lines at the end of the year to prepay property taxes? Maybe he thinks they had nothing better to do with their time during the holidays. What about the many families in District 6 that couldn’t prepay property taxes even if they wanted to. Who has an extra $10,000 or more lying around for this kind of expenditure when they are saving for their children’s college, a 401(K), or possibly even their mortgage payment?)

SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS NEWS
— Ballot hijinks lead Southern Illinois Republicans to challenge party leadership vote – W.J. Kennedy
https://seillinoisnews.com/stories/511395529-ballot-hijinks-lead-southern-illinois-republicans-to-challenge-party-leadership-vote
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Governor Rauner and his hand-picked state GOP Chairman Timothy Schneider are declaring victory in Southern Illinois. But did they actually win? State party officials claim Southern Illinois Republicans voted for a new state central committeeman yesterday, replacing longtime incumbent, former legislator Bob Winchester of Rosiclare with State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet). Rose supports Schneider for another four year term; Winchester does not. But county chairmen say an examination of the vote count shows Rose didn’t win and that the fix was in. They’re promising to challenge what they say are manipulated results. “Rauner’s people showed their true colors yesterday,” a source told SE Illinois News. “They’re glad to cheat to win.” “This has made us even more bitter” In the balance is one of 18 spots on the State Republican Party Central Committee, which governs the party and exerts influence up and down the ballot. On Wednesday, GOP precinct committeemen voted to elect their county chairmen and the state central committee members, who will convene in May to choose a party chairman. Schneider recruited Rose to challenge Winchester, a Rauner critic representing Southern IIlinois’ 15 Congressional District, which includes 33 counties. Winchester supported State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in the March primary. “Many of us were already bitter and this has made us even more bitter,” Rhonda Belford, Hardin County GOP Chair, told SE Illinois News. “Bob Winchester stood tall for southern Illinois and all of Illinois, and this is how they treat him.” Belford said that some of her fellow county chairmen were offered financial rewards by Schneider. Others were threatened with retribution if they didn’t support Rose over Winchester. “They know not what they do,” she said. “This is all about money, but it’s the wrong kind of money, and in the end it’s probably not going to win them the race anyway.” Winner takes all? Mark Shaw, State Central Committeeman from Lake County’s 10th congressional district, said that he is concerned that some counties may have voted by acclamation, a procedural move that would have given Rose 100 percent of the vote when he may have received just over 50 percent. Shaw, who grew up in Mt. Carmel in Wabash County, said that voting by acclamation could be a violation of state law and some legal action may be in order. Results do show that Winchester received zero votes in nine of 33 counties, including four of the ten most populated, a result that Shaw and others said would be an impossibility. Several counties, sources tell SE Illinois News, didn’t even offer Winchester as a candidate for consideration. In Fayette County, home to Rauner Downstate Director Randy Pollard, Winchester was not presented as an option, sources say. “Pollard asked for a voice vote by acclamation for Chapin (Rose) and just moved on,” a source said. “He didn’t even mention Winchester was a candidate, much less the incumbent.” Rose also received zero votes in 13 counties carried 100 percent by Winchester. In all, 22 of 33 counties voted by acclamation, representing 63 percent of Rose’s vote and 59 percent of Winchester’s. County votes are weighted based on their respective turn-out in the March primary. “There are a lot of irregularities here,” Shaw said. “We want to see the raw data on a precinct level presented to the party.” The Shimkus Machine Aides to U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R-Collinsville) actively recruited Rose to challenge Winchester, offering to help him replace Shimkus in Congress when the opportunity presents itself, sources say. Sources in Madison County, Shimkus’ home which carries the second-largest weighted vote in the district, say that when they, too, voted by acclamation for Winchester, a lawyer volunteer for Shimkus present protested and said acclamation votes were not legal. Shimkus’ District Director, Deb Detmers Fansler, then threatened Madison County precinct committee members by phone. Madison County submitted each candidate’s vote totals to the state GOP, sources say, along with the caveat that they voted by acclamation to deliver all of them to Winchester, who won 59 percent of the actual vote. State GOP officials didn’t include Madison County’s acclamation vote in their official totals; it would have meant Winchester won re-election by 644 votes. Chicago GOP Chairman Chris Cleveland said he would push to see the actual vote data as well. “This was a very contentious election, and it’s important that we have full transparency in the results,” Cleveland said. “That means complete, precinct-level reporting that we can verify.”)

https://chicago.suntimes.com/cannabis/pols-high-on-marijuana-legalization-hope-to-clear-the-air-on-4-20-pot-holiday/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On Thursday, Healthy & Productive Illinois, a “marijuana policy group” that has argued against legalization, released its own study. The group argues it would cost the state $670.5 million a year to legalize pot, outweighing annual estimated tax revenue projections of about $566 million. They’re not the only ones not joining the party. Gov. Bruce Rauner told a Downstate TV station in December that it would be a “mistake” to legalize marijuana in Illinois. The Republican governor has, in the past, said he wants more studies on the “ramifications” in states that have legalized the drug. “I do not support legalizing marijuana. I think that’s a mistake. You know there’s a massive, human experiment going on in Colorado, and California, other places. We should see how that’s impacted lives and addiction and hurt young people before we make any decision about it here,” Rauner said in an interview on WSIL in Marion. “I do not support legalizing marijuana.” Still, Rauner instituted a medical marijuana pilot program that started doling out weed to patients in 2015. And Rauner last year signed a bill that decriminalized the possession of 10 grams or less of marijuana, making it a ticketable offense subject to fines of $100 to $200.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Bush offered his own prescription for challenging a “poisonous” political environment that he said is “disproportionately located in ZIP codes around Washington, D.C.” “First, voters should penalize rather than reward politicians irrespective of their party that use racist language or call people Nazis or disparage the disabled or make fun of people in order to push someone down to make themselves look better,” he said to loud applause. “That should be a penalty.” Public figures, Bush said, should be held to a higher ethical standard, regardless of party allegiance. “Bad behavior and the kind of language that we accept today, or the kind of actions that we find intolerable for someone we don’t agree with, should have the exact same response to someone that’s on your team,” he said. ” … Right now, we’re so hyperpartisan that if it’s a Democrat doing something outrageous, Republicans are just righteously there to attack, but if it’s a Republican, you hear nothing and vice versa. “To challenge this notion, sometimes bad behavior is just bad behavior.”)

— Arsenal Digest: Sannito joins ranks of Senior Executive Service (DIERSEN: If I had been a Democrat, the federal government would have promoted me into its Senior Executive Service long before I was 40 years old. If I had been a Democrat, the Democrats who ran GAO would NOT have forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, given me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, failed/refused to promote me beyond GS-13, gotten rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, or forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. The Democrats who ran IRS would NOT have failed/refused to promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, gotten rid of my mentor in 1975, or disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. The Democrats who ran the Post Office would NOT have forced me resign in 1969 or disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Jim Dodge, the Orland Park village trustee who is the Republican candidate for state treasurer, reported $15,353 in his campaign fund on March 31. Dodge will oppose State Treasurer Mike Frerichs, a Champaign Democrat, in the November general election. At last count — Dec. 31, 2017 — Frerichs had more than $530,000 in his campaign fund. He’s reported another $258,000 in itemized contributions since. Dodge raised $35,207 in the first three months of 2018 and spent $27,822 during the period. He was unopposed in the Republican primary. Mueller reports to Rosenstein. . .But that doesn’t stop the data collection. — Inspector General Rights Bill Dies in Committee – Greg Bishop (DIERSEN: Those who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout not only do not like complaints filed against them, they destroy those who file complaints against them. Have you filed complaints? I have. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always done more than just side with those who I have filed complaints against; they have helped those who I have filed complaints against destroy me. I should write a book about all the complaints, grievances, lawsuits, etc. that I have filed including when they were filed, who they were filed against, who I filed the complaints with, what I complained about, who represented me, who issued a ruling, what their ruling was, reasons they gave for their ruling, appeals that I filed, etc.) http://altondailynews.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=17&id=263495#.WtMe4IyKSM8
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A state representative says people complaining to inspectors general for Illinois state offices don’t have rights and that’s why her bill is so important, but the measure died in committee Friday. If someone feels wronged by a lawmaker, or by a state agency, or if an employee of a state operation feels they were harassed or discriminated against by a supervisor or fellow employee, they have the right to file a complaint with an inspector general who oversees their agency, or oversees lawmakers, to investigate. But State Rep. Jeanne Ives said that’s where their rights end. Ives filed House Bill 4840, a bill to give the complainants certain rights. “Right now, complainants have no rights,” Ives said. “They don’t even have the right to know that their complaint was in receipt. That’s why we need this legislation. We need it now.” The measure would have given complainants the right to get an explanation of the process, rules and procedures, to be notified the complaint was received, to be informed of decisions made and actions taken by the IG, to have an attorney, to get a summary, to make an impact statement, to attend a hearing and testify, to receive a report of the findings and recommendations, and to file a complaint with the IG for any alleged violation of the complainant’s rights that are laid out in the measure.)

Who represents the IRP’s base in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois? It should be your Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain, the officers of your Republican township/ward party organization, the officers of your Republican county party organization, your representative on the IRP State Central Committee, and the IRP officers. I think post-Trump, the party basically returns to its traditional role and a traditional platform,” said Priebus during a chat last week with students at Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service. “He’s very unique, he owns it and he does it and he does get away with a lot,” he added.)

My father did. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always used that against me. They have always painted my parents as being undeservedly filthy rich. In my outstanding father’s defense, he fought type 1 diabetes from age 14, he was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma, he never attended college, he worked in the office of a nasty chemical plant, he almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills, he did not buy a new car until he was 45 and it was a bottom of the line 2-door Chevy, and he died suddenly of heart failure in 1969 when he was 47 and I was 21. In my outstanding mother’s defense, she was raised on a farm and she never attended high school.)

— Republicans’ grand hypocrisy on partisan hiring – Jennifer Rubin (DIERSEN: For different reasons, each and every one of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always a) promoted patronage, b) promoted political affiliation discrimination, and c) promoted the spoils system.) SEE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoils_system)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2018/04/11/republicans-grand-hypocrisy-on-partisan-hiring/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: So here’s the question for Republicans: Should the FBI (or any government agency) or even any private employer be in the business of investigating employees’ political views and making employment decisions based upon which candidate or party they support? If that’s the rule, then we are going to need to sweep away a hundred years of civil service reform. “Our democracy depends on a well-functioning government and a well-functioning government depends upon a merit-based, nonpartisan career workforce,” explains Max Stier, head of the nonprofit, nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service. “It is useful to remember some history and recall that we had a president assassinated by a disgruntled spoils-system job seeker, which is what finally led to the professionalization of our government workforce over 100 years ago.” He adds, “This is particularly true for law enforcement.” Former director of the Office of Government Ethics Walter Shaub concurs. “Federal managers are prohibited from considering party affiliation when making personnel decisions for career employees,” he tells me. “This safeguard dates back 135 years and is based on the ethical principle that most of the work of government should be carried out by officials who are loyal to the Constitution, the laws and the American people instead of partisan political patrons.” He continues, “Targeting career officials based on party affiliation would jeopardize the integrity of the government’s operations and, in a case like this, open us up to corrupt political influence on the law enforcement apparatus of the state.” He observes, “The depressing irony is that, in pressing their groundless claims of political bias in the investigation, these members of Congress are literally advocating for political bias by demanding the Justice Department ensure that the president is investigated only by ardent supporters — a view they definitely have not held for his political rival.” As Cruz managed to highlight, the notion that an employer would probe employees’ political beliefs is a noxious one. The GOP should knock off its — what’s the phrase? — political witch hunt designed to ensure that Democrats do not populate sensitive law enforcement roles.)
