(FROM THE ARTICLE: Organizers now apply directly to the city’s special events office, and a permit is granted after several city departments, including the police department, sign off on it. That’s what happened for the 2022 Pride Parade, according to Gwyn Ciesla, of Aurora Pride. Aurora Pride has raised almost $35,000 – mostly in donations – to pay for the parade. The city of Aurora gave $900 in neighborhood festival funding toward the event. The money goes toward paying all expenses, including security from the Aurora police. “We’re paying for city services, and they do a phenomenal job,” Ciesla said. In 2019, the second year of the parade, it was nearly canceled due to lack of funds, but a GoFundMe effort raised more than $19,000 in less than a day to keep the parade going. The parade has not taken place since 2019, due to the pandemic. Last year, organizers held Aurora Pride activities downtown, without a parade.)
