The State Farm Stadium typically holds a whopping 63,400 people, but can stretch to accommodate more than 73,000 for larger events, according to the venue. The Desert Diamond Arena, which is less than a mile away from the megadome, can fit around 20,000 people. Organizers said further event guidance and instructions will be sent to attendees the evening before the service. How to watch the memorial service Beyond the stadiums, mourners near and far will be able to watch the funeral live online through multiple news networks, including many Fox and CBS affiliates. It will also likely be streamed by Turning Point USA, given that the organization has livestreamed previous memorial services for its founder. What to expect Security will be tight between both stadiums. The speakers set to deliver remarks feature a laundry list of White House officials, including President Trump and Vice President Vance, who was a close friend of Kirk. Kirk’s widow, Erika, will also deliver remarks. Just yesterday, a pre-trial protective order was filed on her behalf while her husband’s alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, is behind bars. The rest of the speakers primarily come from the Trump Administration’s cabinet, including Secretary of Health and Human Services RFK Jr. and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who both spoke at Kirk’s memorial at the Kennedy Center. — If I was still the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, the organization would host an event honoring Kirk. I would invite all those who knew Kirk to speak at that event. If I was still an Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) Steering Committee member, I would urge that organization to host a similar event. While I did not know Kirk, I know/knew many who knew Kirk Anti-conservatives would not have been able to destroy TAPROOT in 2012 if I had been able to recruit a conservative slate of officers to run with me, but my fellow conservatives declined. Anti-conservatives would not have been able to destroy ICRC in 2007 if more ICRC members had voted to keep me on ICRC’s Steering Committee. In Lemont, where Kirk founded Turning Point USA more than a decade ago, several hundred attendees turned out for a candlelight remembrance led in prayer, with participants singing the national anthem and holding handmade signs reading ‘You will be missed’ and ‘Your legacy will live on.’ Mourners also placed flowers, flags, and photos outside the site of his first office in the town. The ceremonies in Illinois follow a series of memorials held nationwide and abroad after Kirk, 31, was assassinated on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University before an audience of about 3,000. Law enforcement arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the shooting. Communities overseas also honored his life. Republicans and Democrats are rethinking safety — from campaign events to press conferences. The pivot: Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, a Democrat, moved an outdoor press conference indoors on Thursday out of caution. Some members of the Chicago City Council sent a letter Thursday to Police Superintendent Larry Snelling and Chicago Corporation Counsel Mary Richardson-Lowry urging a review of safety protocols. “Over the last eighteen months, the Council Chamber has seen many rancorous meetings, City Council members needing escorts out of the building and protective services because of the subjects discussed and votes taken. Local ward offices have found themselves vandalized with graffiti, guillotine stickers, and more,” the City Council members wrote. Their full letter is here. They emphasized that the council, which has “long been an open, accessible body” to the residents, “must not leave its members’ safety to chance.” And Republicans are also zeroing in on security. James Mendrick, the DuPage County sheriff who’s running in the GOP primary for governor, contacted his opponents to offer advice on how to handle safety as the race intensifies. Dual duty: “I’m running for office, but I’m also the sheriff and have to make sure that everybody’s safe,” Mendrick told your Playbook host about making the unusual move to help opponents. He’s especially worried about “copycat” incidents.
