DAILY HERALD
— Democrats seek to unseat Bolingbrook mayor Roger Claar who hosted Trump fundraiser – Kerry Lester
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161208/news/161209017/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Three-term Will County board member Jackie Traynere was part of a group protesting at the fundraiser at the Bolingbrook Golf Club and said that got the ball rolling for her to file nominating petitions to run in the April 4 election. “The group continued to meet, and they said, you know, it’s time. Somebody needs to run,” Traynere said. “I thought about it, and remembered my father always taught me, ‘Don’t point your finger at someone because then there are three of them pointing back at you.’ Sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.” Traynere’s been a Bolingbrook resident since 1970, works as a union organizer and owns a cleaning business with her husband. Claar, who’s making plans to attend Trump’s inauguration Jan. 20, says his 20 years as mayor show he has the backing of the local electorate. He also points out that municipal elections are nonpartisan. “There’s no such thing as a Republican pothole or Democratic pothole,” he says. “These are local issues, not national or international or even state (issues).” Helping out  Democrats offering to help Traynere include members of U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin’s campaign, U.S. Rep. Bill Foster’s office and the Will County Democrats. They point to election results showing more than 60 percent of Bolingbrook residents voted for Clinton in the November election. But it’s likely Claar also is picking up more help. “I believe there’s a good support base for me out there,” he says.)

SUBURBAN LIFE
— Wheaton officials voice concerns about proposed facility for new, expectant single mothers  Facility proposed for former Wheaton Inn – ERIC SCHELKOPF
http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/2016/12/06/wheaton-officials-voice-concerns-about-proposed-facility-for-new-expectant-single-mothers/ah07kpi/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Greg Dose, attorney for the applicant, said the facility would not be considered a day-care facility and therefore would not have to be licensed by the state. “This is their own residence,” Dose said. “They are not taking their child to another location.” That drew concerns from councilwoman Suzanne Fitch, who said she thought the facility would provide child care so mothers could attend college classes. As proposed, they would have to be enrolled in college to participate in the program. Mayor Michael Gresk also voiced concerns about who would be watching the infants. “To the casual observer, it would appear that if you are going to have 8, 10, 12 kids and you are going to have mothers going to classes during the course of the day, somebody’s got to watch the infants and perhaps toddlers along the way also,” Gresk said. Dose said he thought some of the women would do the babysitting while others attended college classes, but he was not sure of the arrangement. Florczak-Seeman was not able to attend the Dec. 5 meeting. Councilman Thor Saline also noted that floor plans for the facility show only 10 beds, although the facility could serve as many as 12 women. “Did I miss something, or will the plans change?” he asked. In response, Dose said he wasn’t sure. This would be the company’s first facility, which will be called The Butterfly Garden…A Place for Healing and Transformation.)

http://dailycaller.com/2016/12/05/black-activists-launch-monthly-fee-system-for-whites-to-pay-blacks/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Liberal black activists have launched a monthly “subscription box” designed for white people “to not only financially support Black femme freedom fighters, but also complete measurable tasks in the fight against white supremacy.”  The subscription service is called Safety Pin Box and was launched last week. Wearing a safety pin has recently become a symbol within the liberal community for one to show solidarity with minorities. The group is headed by Leslie Mac and Marissa Jenae Johnson. Johnson is one of the Black Lives Matter protesters who interrupted Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders during a speech in Seattle last year. There are four different types of subscriptions offered by the group. The “e-ally box” is $25 a month and is “an electronic form of solidarity.” It comes with “exclusive ‘calls to action’ when urgent ally services are needed in times of crisis.” Ally is a term used by Black Lives Matter activists to describe white comrades.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: From filling out forms and writing essays to building a resume and gathering letters of recommendation, applying to college is a rigorous part of high school. But for 16-year-old Bryan Dominguez, the stress is magnified. Unlike many of his peers at Buffalo Grove High School, he doesn’t have anyone at home who’s been through the process. The son of Mexican immigrants and the oldest of four children, Dominguez, of Wheeling, will be the first in his family to go to college. “The whole concept of college is very confusing in general to me and my parents,” he said. “All I know is my one goal in life is to go to college. Being the first person in my family … is something I hold very close to my heart.” Recognizing first-generation college students have unique needs, Arlington Heights-based Township High School District 214 developed a field trip for its students to tour two colleges with their parents as part of learning more about the entire process.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— How to Help Working People – Editorial  (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that the federal government overpaid me and gave me retirement, health insurance, vacation days, sick days, and other benefits that were too generous.  In my defense, a) I earned a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) I earned job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) I earned a job-related professional license when I was 33. Further, many millions have not and will not seek a job with the federal government a) because the pay and benefits are terrible, b) because the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) because they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) because they cannot pass an employment examination, e) because they cannot pass a background investigation, f) because they cannot pass a physical examination, g) because they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or h) because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against its employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/05/opinion/how-to-help-working-people.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: THE GOVERNMENT AS MODEL EMPLOYER Mr. Obama has issued executive orders to raise pay and improve conditions at companies that do business with the government. The orders, which require contractors to pay employees at least $10.10 an hour, provide paid sick days and report wage-and-safety violations to procurement officials, have value beyond helping federal contract employees. They also set an example for the entire private sector to follow. As president, Mr. Trump will be free to ditch these executive orders. As a private employer, his own approach to low-paid labor indicates that model-employer orders would be the first to go. But in his new job, Mr. Trump will be the nation’s chief executive. Does he want to be known for lowering basic standards?)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Slamming the media may be all the rage in U.S. politics, but Chicago isn’t immune.  The morning after the presidential election, the Cook County Bar Association — Chicago’s pre-eminent organization for black lawyers — issued a curious, stinging rebuke of veteran CBS2 investigative reporter Pam Zekman for a report in which she all but accused an elderly black judge of malingering to collect $250,000 in disability payments. CANADA FREE PRESS
— Indoctrinating the Young in Hate Factories  Our education system has created a multitude of young, inexperienced, poorly educated, indoctrinated minds, speaking as with authority…scary! – Ray DiLorenzo
http://canadafreepress.com/article/indoctrinating-the-young-in-hate-factories
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you want to learn to hate America, your nearest public school or college is waiting for you.  If it is a university you want to attend, don’t worry about the cost, the government (taxpayers) will pick up the tab as student loans are about to be forgiven to the tune of $108 billion and will probably go much higher. Our schools across the country have created and nurtured millions of godless, America-hating, angry, statist, whiny, cry babies and we will all be paying dearly for it, now and in the future. In McAllen, Texas, teachers tried to force a teenager to sing the Mexican national anthem and recite the Mexican pledge of allegiance.  She refused saying it was against her beliefs.  She was subsequently thrown out of the class and given a failing grade for the day. University of Hawaii professor, Huanani-Kay Trask has taught students “We need to think very, very clearly about who the enemy is.  The enemy is the United States of America and everyone who supports it.” University of Southern California professor, Darry Sragow, teaches hate in his Regulation of Elections and Political Finance class, telling them “Republicans are stupid, racist losers,” and that they are “angry old white people.” University of Rhode Island history professor, Erik Loomis, tweeted, “I want Wayne LaPierre’s (NRA President) head on a stick.”  He asked, “Can we define dues to the NRA as contributing to a terrorist organization?” Scott Compton, an English teacher at Chapin High School, Chapin, SC, was put on administrative leave after he allegedly threw an American flag on the floor and stomped on it in front of his students.  He chose to resign.  He probably teaches at a college now. A geography teacher at Lumberton High School in Texas encourages students to dress in Islamic clothing and actually instructed them to refer to the 9/11 hijackers as “freedom fighters.”  They were also taught that the Holocaust was not genocide.  John Valastro, the superintendent of the school district, told Fox News that the teacher did absolutely nothing wrong. The schools may defend themselves by saying they teach critical thinking…hogwash!  They are intolerant of any opinions contrary to their own and the student with the guts to stick to his/her values risks paying dearly in poor grades and harassment. What do the students have to say?  A new video is circulating asking college students if they prefer Castro or Donald Trump.  Every student in the video struggled with the answer.  One student said, “Well that’s a tough question.”  Another student said, “If Donald Trump’s administration is what he said it would be, then Fidel Castro would have been the better leader to the Cuban people than Donald Trump will be.”  Another student: “I feel that he really changed Cuba in so many ways that really made possibilities for the Cuban people nearly endless.” Our education system has created a multitude of young, inexperienced, poorly educated, indoctrinated minds, speaking as with authority…scary! This problem is not limited or unusual.  It has become widespread and is now a threat to the very framework of our country and society.  Jihadists and Socialists/Communists can access considerable encouragement and support from many of our young people today.  So much so that there should be concern for a growing 5th column ready to strike at our very heart.  We had better take heed.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Chicago’s deadliest neighborhoods get greenest cops – Mick Dumke and Frank Main  (DIERSEN: When were you green?  When I transferred from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old, my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates treated me like I was extremely green.  They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran.  I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $77,899-$88,286. Much of the work that I did for IRS during those 5 1/2 years was similar to what I did for GAO including interviewing, investigation, data analysis, and report writing. I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul.  I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976.  Virtually all of my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were Democrats who GAO had hired straight out of college. They had little or no work experience outside of GAO.  They wanted every GAO hire to start at the bottom like they did.  They had an extremely low opinion of executive branch employees and of union members like I had been at IRS for almost 9 years.  They exhibited an extremely low opinion my knowledge of IRS that I had gained by working for IRS for almost 9 years. They stressed that GAO had required me to accept an $18,459 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO.)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/on-leadership/wp/2016/12/02/boycotts-backlash-breitbart-u-s-companies-get-dragged-into-a-volatile-political-climate/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Froot Loops and Frosted Flakes aren’t normally the kind of brands to get caught in the political crosshairs. But in the aftermath of a combustible election, Kellogg cereals and a growing number of consumer brands have suddenly found themselves the unexpected target of boycotts and hot-tempered rhetoric. Kellogg said this week it would pull advertising from Breitbart News, the far-right web site that its critics say trades in racist and sexist content. In response, Breitbart called on readers to boycott the company, devoted a chunk of its front page to stories about Kellogg or the boycott, and sparked a social media outcry. Consumers on both the right and the left piled in, saying they would either stop buying the company’s products — or conversely, stock up on them. The maker of Eggo waffles and Pop-Tarts is only the latest American corporation caught in the crossfire. In the weeks since the election, companies have navigated a sharply politicized environment, one that has entailed calls for boycotts, explosive social media responses to executive comments and thorny interactions between front-line workers and their customers. “I’ve never seen anything like this before, where companies find themselves so open to attack for their points of view or their speech,” said Leslie Gaines-Ross, chief reputation strategist for the public relations firm Weber Shandwick. “Companies are now much more in the fray and seen as political targets.”)

I had lots of trouble surviving at GAO after my Democrat superiors succeeded in getting rid of the manager who had hired me in 1980, had got me assigned to audits of IRS in 1986, and had promoted me in 1986.)
http://federalnewsradio.com/workforce/2016/12/survive-agencys-new-trump-appointee/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In late January 2017, when the first of President-elect Donald Trump’s 4,000 political employees report for work, there already will be plenty of angst built up – both by the appointees and by the career civil servants they will oversee.   Thing are going to be different. Many of the appointees will bring different policies and different styles. Most importantly, they will represent a new President who openly and frequently spoke with disdain about the federal workforce and ran on a platform of bringing change. If you’re a senior executive, you want to survive in the new administration and you want your agency to succeed.  But dealing with the arrival of an unknown entity with an unknown agenda can be daunting. Ira Goldstein, a long-time federal executive and consultant, provided some tools for both sides in this new partnership in his recent book The Federal Management Playbook. He offered some practical advice for federal workers – things that can and must be done. To begin with, Goldstein wants to put the federal workforce at ease about dealing with Trump’s declarations about “draining the swamp.” “After 46 years in and around the federal government, I discovered even through there was a lot of publicity around our nation that government doesn’t work well, what you see after a period of time is that many things really do work well. Planes fly safely over our country. Social Security checks get out on time,” Goldstein said in an interview on the Federal Drive with Tom Temin. “Government is important. It’s not going to go away and it’s enormously complex. We’ve got to do better. We need good ‘bureaucrats’ ― skilled, committed, experienced career officials. We also need political direction and oversight, and these days we need competent consultants and contractors.” As a former U.S. assistant comptroller general and chief operating officer of the Government Accountability Office, and founder of Deloitte’s U.S. Federal Practice, Goldstein has seen many transitions. His Playbook hammers home ways and means of working with the incoming transition team “to achieve the effective and efficient execution of public policies that we want and deserve.”)

http://www.aol.com/article/news/2016/12/01/mike-pences-new-neighbors-are-making-a-not-so-subtle-statement/21618571/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mike Pence will be moving into the Naval Observatory in Northwest DC in a few months, but until then he’s renting. CNN reported that his new home in one of the capital’s upscale suburbs is costing the future vice president $6,000-a-month. And like the Hamilton cast, some of Pence’s new neighbors have strong feelings about the positions that the former Indiana governor has held in relation to the LGBT community. According to WJLA, more than half a dozen rainbow flags have appeared on the doorsteps and front lawns of homes in Pence’s new neighborhood. One of his neighbors said that she considers the flags “a respectful message showing, in my case, my disagreement with some of his thinking.”)
