The State Farm Stadium typically holds a whopping 63,400 people, but can stretch to accommodate more than 73,000 for larger events, according to the venue. The Desert Diamond Arena, which is less than a mile away from the megadome, can fit around 20,000 people. Organizers said further event guidance and instructions will be sent to attendees the evening before the service. How to watch the memorial service Beyond the stadiums, mourners near and far will be able to watch the funeral live online through multiple news networks, including many Fox and CBS affiliates. It will also likely be streamed by Turning Point USA, given that the organization has livestreamed previous memorial services for its founder. What to expect Security will be tight between both stadiums. The speakers set to deliver remarks feature a laundry list of White House officials, including President Trump and Vice President Vance, who was a close friend of Kirk. Kirk’s widow, Erika, will also deliver remarks. Just yesterday, a pre-trial protective order was filed on her behalf while her husband’s alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, is behind bars. The rest of the speakers primarily come from the Trump Administration’s cabinet, including Secretary of Health and Human Services RFK Jr. and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who both spoke at Kirk’s memorial at the Kennedy Center. The ceremonies in Illinois follow a series of memorials held nationwide and abroad after Kirk, 31, was assassinated on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University before an audience of about 3,000. Law enforcement arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the shooting. Communities overseas also honored his life. Hundreds of mourners assembled Friday evening in central London, where Turning Point UK organized a vigil featuring U.S. flags, the Christian hymn Amazing Grace, and candlelight in Parliament Square. Tributes were also reported in Berlin, Madrid, Paris, and Vienna, with Poland’s parliament holding a moment of silence at the request of the Law and Justice party. Rabine was an early backer of Turning Point USA, which Kirk cofounded in 2012 to bring conservative ideas to college campuses. “I have watched him over the past 13 years become the greatest leader behind positive change in our college universities and our country,” said Rabine, who ran for governor in 2022. “Terrible tragedy,” said former Gov. Bruce Rauner, another early donor to Turning Point noting Kirk was part of his 2014 rise to Springfield. Rauner described the young activist as “bright, talented and charismatic.” What we know: Kirk, 31, was killed by a single gunshot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in the conservative town of Orem, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. No one is yet in custody, according to The Associated Press. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. Congressman Darin LaHood, a Republican, called the murder “a heinous act of political violence that has become too common in our country. Charlie did not deserve to die because of his ideological views.” Though they rarely saw eye to eye, Gov. JB Pritzker condemned the shooting and drew a wider lesson. “We’ve seen other political violence occur in other states, and it’s got to stop. There are people who are fomenting it in this country,” Pritzker told reporters upon first hearing of the shooting.
