NBC5
— BEYOND OUTRAGEOUS: Rauner to Sign Immigration Bill Amid Conservative Backlash – Shelby Bremer (DIERSEN: Those who want Rauner to sign the bill also want Rauner to officially dump those individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, and those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/politics/rauner-to-sign-illinois-trust-act-441922333.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Some say the bill would turn Illinois into a “sanctuary state,” the term used for jurisdictions that do not comply with federal requests to detain undocumented immigrants who have been arrested on charges unrelated to their immigration status and turn them over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for possible deportation. President Donald Trump has made a concerted effort to crack down on these jurisdictions, signing an executive order in January to halt federal grants to so-called sanctuary cities. . .Often reluctant to discuss national political issues, particularly as they relate to Trump, Rauner will sign the bill – which received one Republican vote in the House and five in the Senate – on the final day of his 60-day window to act on the legislation ends, in a move that has already angered some of the state’s more conservative voters and pundits. Far-right website Breitbart News slammed the first-term governor for his support of the bill, sharing criticisms of the measure from conservative commentators like Rosanna Pulido, former Republican candidate for Congress and founder of the anti-immigration group Illinois Minutemen. “Personally I am already checking out a different state I can move to. It is truly a sad day in Illinois,” Pulido said, calling SB 31 “the straw that broke the camel’s back.” Former congressman and conservative radio host Joe Walsh tweeted Tuesday that Rauner is “done” if he signs the bill, adding that it would be a “bad terrible day for Illinois” and he would not support his reelection.)

If a man declares himself to be a woman, is he then entitled to all the massive benefits of Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion?  While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, my superiors were always under tremendous pressure from Democrat politicians to give preference to their employees who were female, that is, to discriminate against their employees who were male.

— Chicagoans to March in Solidarity Against White Supremacists – Solidarity Against White Supremacy  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, anti-Trumps viciously demonize, viciously denigrate, and viciously condemn as being White supremacists, Nazis, KKK members, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things those individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that do not join them in viciously demonizing, viciously denigrating, and viciously condemning those that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://www.commondreams.org/newswire/2017/08/27/chicagoans-march-solidarity-against-white-supremacists
(FROM THE ANNOUNCEMENT: CHICAGO – A coalition of Chicagoans representing more than 50 community and labor organizations will assemble at 2pm, Sunday, August 27 to say NO to white supremacists, and the political culture & public officials propagating hate, violence and inequality. Late Friday, knowing they would face massive opposition, neo-fascists in the Bay Area cancelled their planned events. Counter-protesters in the Bay Area decided to continue the plan to take their opposition to the bigots to the streets, and we will be doing the same here in Chicago. The Chicago event, entitled Solidarity Against White Supremacy, will begin at Federal Plaza, corner of Adams and Dearborn Streets, and march to near Trump Tower, corner of Wabash and Wacker Avenues. Solidarity Against White Supremacy is part of the National Weekend of Solidarity, a national effort to show support for community members planning to protest hate groups and other racists in San Francisco and Berkeley on the weekend of August 26-27. The rally comes in the wake of the Charlottesville violence and the inability of officials like President Trump and Governor Bruce Rauner to properly condemn it. “While many are prompted to protest the egregious responses of Trump, Rauner and others to the fascist hate and violence in Charlottesville, we also recognize that this hate has deep institutional roots in our country, and many of the policies pursued by politicians of both parties reinforce, rather than diminish it,” said Jaquie Algree vice president for external relations of SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana. “Depriving schools serving primarily Black and Brown youth of the music, art, sports and other programs enjoyed by wealthier, whiter students, closing public mental health clinics, slashing social services relied on by women and people of color, attacking unions, deporting millions of immigrants—all these are policies that reinforce the racism and other hate highlighted in Charlottesville.” Solidarity Against White Supremacy organizers note that the murder of Heather Heyer in Charlottesville, VA was but the most publicized in a string of neo-fascist terrorist attacks in the United States. In 2016, attacks on Muslims increased 67% over the preceding year. In May of this year, Black Bowie State student Richard W. Collins III was murdered by a neo-Nazi on the University of Maryland campus. In June, Richy John Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche were murdered in Portland when they intervened to stop racist harassment of two young Black women. “When Trump says he wants to ‘make America great again,’ we know that he wants to turn the clock back to a time when few had the courage to oppose the racism, sexism, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBTQ hate espoused by his core, ‘Alt-Right,’ neo-fascist supporters,” said Andy Thayer of the Gay Liberation Network. “It is no accident that Chicago is one of the cities where these organized creeps are at their weakest – On March 11, 2016, Chicagoans forced then-candidate Trump to cancel his rally at UIC. On August 27, Chicagoans will gather once again to tell white supremacists and anyone else with the intent to harm, that they are not welcome in Chicago.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner has approved the creation of the Illinois Muslim American Advisory Council. The Republican signed the plan into law on Friday without offering comment. The council’s purpose is to advise the governor and legislators on policy issues affecting Muslim Americans and immigrants. It’ll be made up of 21 members, appointed by the governor and legislative leaders. The group is required to meet monthly and issue policy recommendations. Proponents say establishing the council sends a welcoming message to Muslims. Opponents question resources used on advisory councils. Former Gov. Pat Quinn had established a similar group by executive order in 2011, but the group disbanded when Rauner took office in 2015. Illinois has over 500,000 Muslims and more than 300 mosques.)

NBC5
— Several Rauner Staffers Hired Only Weeks Ago Fired, Quit – Mary Ann Ahern (FROM THE ARTICLE: Some speculate that perhaps some of the former Illinois Policy Institute staffers left on their own, upset that Rauner plans to sign an Immigration bill on Monday that conservatives oppose.)
http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Rauner-Fires-Staffers-Hired-Only-Weeks-Ago-Sources-441583733.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner fired several key staffers Wednesday night who were hired only six weeks ago, multiple sources tell NBC 5. The shakeup comes after a lingering controversy over a political cartoon from the Illinois Policy Institute, the right wing think tank Rauner has turned to in his staffer overhaul. Some reports say Rauner’s chief of staff, Kristina Rasmussen, may be out, but are still not confirmed. Sources tell NBC 5 perhaps Rauner’s entire communications team and his general counsel are all out. Sources confirmed Michael Lucci, Rauner’s deputy chief of staff for policy, Diana Rickert, Laurel Patric and Britany Carl, who once compared abortion to Nazi eugenics in a controversial blog post, were all out. Lucci, Rickert, Carl were fired, sources said, while Patrick resigned. It’s believed Rickert wrote the vexing “white male” press release from Tuesday and Patrick sent it out. Former staffers say Rasmussen would have signed off on it. Attempts to reach the Rauner team have been unsuccessful. Whether all were fired or quit is not clear. Rasmussen and several other staffers came to the governor’s office from the Illinois Policy Institute. Rauner had been out of town for several days this week, taking his daughter to college, and the staff released a press release on the cartoon many lawmakers labelled racist. Among the comments from the Rauner team was “as a white male” he would no longer comment on the controversy. Rauner later released another statement saying the previous one “did not accurately reflect my views.” Some speculate that perhaps some of the former Illinois Policy Institute staffers left on their own, upset that Rauner plans to sign an Immigration bill on Monday that conservatives oppose.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Rauner ousts new communications team after ‘white male’ flap – Tina Sfondeles  (FROM THE ARTICLE: A spokeswoman for the lieutenant governor’s office offered no comment on the resignations but said that she would be assisting with media calls.)
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/sources-rauner-ousts-new-communications-team-after-white-male-flap/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A day after crafting a controversial statement citing Gov. Bruce Rauner’s position as a “white male,” the governor’s new communications staff has been ousted — with more exits on the way, according to multiple sources. Sources said the staffers — hired in July after a staff purge and series of protest resignations — were asked to resign; one was asked to stay but chose to resign. Sources say that includes former Illinois Policy Institute staffer Diana Rickert, who served as the governor’s deputy chief of staff for communications; Laurel Patrick, communications director; and Brittany Carl and Meghan Keenan, both communications specialists. And multiple sources said exits of high-level staffers are also on the way. A spokeswoman for the lieutenant governor’s office offered no comment on the resignations but said that she would be assisting with media calls. Late Tuesday night, Rauner scrambled to undo the damage from a statement his newly revamped communications office issued earlier in the day, with Patrick writing that the governor would not offer an opinion on a cartoon some deemed racist — because he is “a white male.” The story was picked up on national wires, which undeniably painted the governor in a negative light. Hours later, Rauner released a statement saying the comment “did not accurately reflect” his views. “I can understand why some people found the cartoon offensive. And I believe we should do more as a society and a nation to bring us together, rather than divide us,” the governor said in the statement. The communication staffers’ exits mark a cap to a dizzying spell of public flaps for the governor since he directed a staff takeover in mid-July — including the firing of his “body man” on his first day for sexist and racially insensitive tweets; criticism over the right leanings of his high-level staffers; a clarification by email of his comments on Charlottesville and a highly criticized national interview on Fox News. Carl, too, came under fire when an online post revealed she argued that abortion is being used “to rid the world of disabled and other “unwanted’ persons” — comparing it to Nazi Germany. The negative headlines come as Rauner is seeking re-election — and he is considered a vulnerable Republican governor, despite the vast wealth he has to support his campaign. In a critical blow to his campaign, Mike Zolnierowicz resigned as Rauner’s top political lieutenant in July. News of the exits spread throughout the political realm on Wednesday night. One senior Republican operative called the ousting a sign the governor has realized he made a “mistake.” “The governor and First Lady have finally admitted they made a colossal mistake in hiring these right wing ideologues,” the operative said. “One can only hope for the sake of our state government they will make better choices in the future.” The Rauner administration shakeup began on July 10 when Rauner unexpectedly fired his chief of staff, Richard Goldberg. Goldberg was swiftly replaced by Kristina Rasmussen, former president and CEO of the Illinois Policy Institute. That sparked the exits of at least 20 employees, many of whom left because they didn’t believe in the direction the governor was taking in hiring members of the conservative think tank. The shift came after Rauner vetoed a state budget that included an income-tax hike, only to see his veto overridden with the help of several Republicans. The governor has defended his hires. In July, Rauner said he was working to assemble “the best team in America.” He also declared “change happens” and described criticism of his staff shakeup as “political spin baloney.” “I am always looking for the most talented team I can possibly have, the most talented people who will serve the best interests of all the people of Illinois,” Rauner said in downstate Auburn on July 21. The governor said the transitions were “just part of a process.” The governor continues to be fielded with questions about whether the hiring of Illinois Policy Institute staffers to high-level positions, such as his chief of staff and policy head, meant a signal to the right. He has denied the shift, saying he calls the shots. Multiple emails sent to Patrick went unanswered on Wednesday. The Sun-Times last received a response from Patrick on Tuesday night. Questions about the controversial statement went unanswered. And emails sent Wednesday night to Patrick were returned with an automatic reply — directing media inquiries to two other state employees. Calls made to Rickert, Patrick and Rasmussen were not returned Wednesday night. The cartoon by the conservative think tank depicted a black child in a Cubs cap begging for money for school from a wealthy white man. The cigar-smoking man was showing one pocket empty and the other stuffed with tax-increment financing money. Legislators decried the cartoon as racist on the Illinois House floor last week, and the think tank later removed it from the institute’s website.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Rauner ejects new communications team after ‘white male’ storm – GREG HINZ
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170824/BLOGS02/170829945/illinois-gov-rauner-ousts-new-communications-team
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Barely a month after firing his chief of staff and communications aides, Gov. Bruce Rauner appears to be in the process of doing the same thing again. Numerous Springfield sources say the new team Rauner brought in last month—most of them from the libertarian Illinois Policy Institute—are heading for the exits after an embarrassing situation this week in which Rauner retracted a statement put out via staff saying he couldn’t comment on an allegedly racist cartoon posted by the Institute because he was a “white male.” Rauner spokeswoman Laurel Patrick did not answer calls and her email was automatically directed to other officials who did not respond. But among those reportedly on the hit list are chief of staff Kristina Rasmussen, who insiders say authorized the “white male” statement, and communications director Diana Rickert. Word of the second shakeup became instant political fodder for Democratic gubernatorial hopeful J.B. Pritzker. “In a move straight out of the Trump playbook, Bruce Rauner has reportedly fired his communications team, who were just 37 days on the job,” the Pritzker campaign said in a statement. “There is a problem that no amount of staff changes can fix, and his name is Bruce Rauner.” If the turnover is as widespread as it appears—and as of this writing, the administration has yet to confirm these actions or describe their extent—the changes will throw Rauner’s re-election effort into chaos. One top Republican operative had a three-letter response when I emailed him about the matter last night: “WTF.” All of this occurs as Rauner is attempting to hold Republican votes and sustain his veto of a school funding bill that top Democrats dearly would like to override. Expect lots more fallout today.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Rauner blames press team for ‘white male’ statement, says aides weren’t ‘good fit’ – Rick Pearson, Monique Garcia and Kim Geiger
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-bruce-rauner-staff-shakeup-met-0825-20170824-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner held a conference call with staff members Thursday morning to announce the departure of his new communications team, saying they were “good people trying to do good work” but ended up being not a “good fit.” According to one person who was on the call but who was not authorized to speak publicly about it, Rauner told aides “the intensity of the battle is going up” and he wanted to address the staffing rumors because he expected them to continue, the source said. “The reality is in addition to the enemies on the other side of the aisle (Democrats), we have enemies in the media and enemies who should be on our side, some of them former members of the administration,” the source recounted Rauner as saying. Rauner said talk of departures by his chief staff, Kristina Rasmussen, and chief legal counsel Dennis Murashko were just “rumors.” The source said Rasmussen also was on the call and told staff she “couldn’t wait to see all of their smiling faces.” Rasmussen, policy chief Michael Lucci and most of the communications team joined the Rauner administration last month from the Illinois Policy Institute, a think tank with a free-market message that aligns with the governor’s worldview and has spent years developing a public relations infrastructure via newspapers, radio and the internet. Rauner confirmed the communications team shakeup in a statement released Thursday. “Diana Rickert, Laurel Patrick, Meghan Keenan and Brittany Carl have submitted their resignations to the Office of the Governor,” a statement said. “We are grateful for their hard work on behalf of the people of Illinois and wish them all the best going forward.” Rickert, Keenan and Carl are alumni of the Policy Institute. Patrick previously had worked for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Later, during a morning appearance in Naperville to sign legislation regarding pensions, Rauner said the departures were “by mutual agreement.” He also said the communications team’s departure was “all the changes there are.” The departures come as Rauner is trying to move past the issue of a controversial political cartoon posted by the Policy Institute and clean up a statement his relatively new communications office sent out. The background: The cartoon showed an African-American child panhandling for money from a suit-wearing white man with a cigar in a commentary on Chicago’s use of tax increment financing districts and school funding. Lawmakers from both political parties said the cartoon was offensive, and the organization took it down. Rauner had tried to avoid the issue, saying he hadn’t seen the drawing. Rauner’s administration put out an initial statement Tuesday noting the cartoon was removed. “And the governor — as a white male — does not have anything more to add to the discussion,” the statement read. Rauner sent out a new statement Tuesday evening, though the governor stopped short of saying he found the cartoon offensive himself. “Earlier today an email went out from my office that did not accurately reflect my views. I can understand why some people found the cartoon offensive. And I believe we should do more as a society and a nation to bring us together, rather than divide us,” the statement read in part. “It is not my place to comment on every cartoon or picture that comes from people outside the governor’s office or to tell people how they should feel.” On Thursday, the governor put the blame for the controversial statement about the cartoon on his former communications team, saying he did not “have knowledge” of the statement before it went out and it was not approved by him or his chief of staff. Rauner said it was drafted by Rickert, and sent out by Patrick. Rauner declined to say if he believed the cartoon was racist, repeatedly saying “I understand why some people are upset by it.” “My job is not to comment on every cartoon, every political statement that comes from outside our administration, and I will not do that. What I will do is fight every day for justice, fairness, equality,” Rauner said. Asked by reporters about the Illinois Policy Institute’s involvement in his administration, Rauner downplayed the influence. “A very tiny fraction of our administration is from that organization, and they in no regard, in no regard, does that organization speak for me or my administration, and I do not lean on them for any particular issue or policy,” Rauner said. The think tank was aligned with many of Rauner’s goals and he had given it more than a half-million dollars before becoming governor. The Rauner administration turmoil started last month when he dumped his chief of staff Richard Goldberg after lawmakers overrode the governor’s veto of a state budget and tax hike package as some Republicans broke ranks and joined Democrats. That went a long way toward ending a two year budget stalemate and decreased Rauner’s leverage to win his economic agenda Democrats oppose. Rauner decision to part ways with Golberg led to a big wave of departures that rid his administration of what was left of the mainstream Republican operatives the governor had borrowed from former U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk in winning the governor’s office in 2014.)

— LGBTQ Legislation Nears Looming Deadline – RACHEL OTWELL  (DIERSEN: If you promote LGBTQ activity, you promote the destruction of the traditional family.)
http://nprillinois.org/post/lgbtq-legislation-nears-looming-deadline#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: LGBTQ rights activists say two pieces of legislation should be signed by the governor. Both passed the General Assembly unanimously. One would ban the “panic defense” in the murders of LGBTQ people. Another would allow transgender individuals to change their birth certificates without the necessity of sexual reassignment surgery. Mike Ziri is the director of public policy for Equality Illinois. He says not every transgender person can afford the surgery, or even desires it, “We’re hopeful the governor will sign this and continue our proud tradition of LGBTQ civil rights in Illinois.” The deadline for the governor to act is next week. The governor did recently sign a measure the organization supports. Equality Illinois is celebrating the passage of what’s been called the “LGBTQ Public Service Bill.” The idea is that it will encourage people in that community to be better represented on boards and commissions under the Governor’s Office. Those who apply will have the option to acknowledge their sexuality and gender identity on application forms. ”That helps when it comes time to advancing policies that are inclusive, affirmative and fair and representative of the diversity of the great state of Illinois,” says Ziri. In a press release from Equality Illinois the organization also explains the new law by saying it, “Adds the new data about sexual orientation and gender identity to an existing annual report to the General Assembly of the demographic data of individuals who apply for boards and commissions and for those who are appointed.” It takes effect January 1, 2018.)

— Rauner to sign immigration bill — sparking anger on right – Tina Sfondeles  (DIERSEN: Obviously, Rauner is taking the advice of those who not only want Rauner to lose in 2018, but who want all Republicans to lose in 2018.)
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/rauner-to-sign-immigration-bill-sparking-anger-on-right/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner plans to sign into law on Monday both an automatic voter registration and an immigration measure that would limit the role of local law enforcement in federal efforts —a move that may spark some backlash among his conservative base. Conservative firebrand Joe Walsh tweeted if he signs the immigration bill, “Governor Rauner is done.” Last week the governor on WBEZ-FM called the immigration measure — the Illinois Trust Act — “very reasonable,” but would not confirm whether he’d sign it. On Tuesday, the governor’s office confirmed he’d sign the immigration and voter registration measures on Monday. The immigration legislation would prohibit police in Illinois from detaining or arresting a person based on their immigration status or on federal immigration detainer. It would allow law enforcement officials, however, to detain a person with a judge’s order. The bill passed with bipartisan support and was supported by faith leaders, law enforcement and businesses. But Republicans initially opposed the measure, arguing it will cause a conflict with federal laws. State Sen. Dave Syverson of Rockford has said Republicans are concerned the “blanket prohibition could result in leaving criminal illegal immigrants, including those accused of violent crimes, on the streets.” The conservative news organization Breitbart just wrote an article on the bill suggesting Rauner would be helping Democrats “frustrate federal immigration enforcement.” And Walsh, a former congressman and talk radio personality, weighed in on Tuesday, tweeting that if Rauner “allows Illinois to become a sanctuary state, I will not support his reelection. No way.” When TV reporter Mary Ann Ahern tweeted that Rauner planned to sign the bill, Walsh responded: “If true, bad terrible day for Illinois. Gov Rauner is done.” Rauner has steered clear of making comments about federal issues, specifically about “sanctuary cities.” He has said he’s in support of a comprehensive immigration policy, however. The automatic voter registration measure will automatically register people to vote at state drivers’ facilities, when applying for, updating or renewing a driver’s license or state ID — unless they opt out. It also creates a similar program for other state agencies. The governor vetoed a similar measure last year, citing concerns over voter fraud, and federal election laws. Illinois will be the ninth state to approve automatic voter registration. The measure was sent to the governor June 29.)
— ‘White male’ Rauner opts not to weigh in on racial debate over cartoon – Tina Sfondeles  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, anti-Trumps and anti-Rauners demonize, denigrate, and condemn as being White supremacists, haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things those who are Trump supporters, Rauner supporters, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/white-male-rauner-opts-not-to-weigh-in-on-racial-debate-over-cartoon/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Noting that he is “a white male,” Gov. Bruce Rauner does not plan to wade into the controversy over a cartoon by a conservative think tank that sparked bipartisan outrage in the General Assembly and charges that it was racially offensive. “The governor would never try to talk anyone out of their reaction to any piece of art, political or nonpolitical, right or left, good or bad,” Rauner spokeswoman Laurel Patrick said Tuesday. “The governor has great respect for the black caucus and members of the General Assembly who voiced concerns about the cartoon. “The governor’s office has also heard from members of the black community who found truth in the imagery and do not find the cartoon offensive. Here is where things stand: The cartoon was removed days ago. And the governor – as a white male – does not have anything more to add to the discussion.” The cartoon by the Illinois Policy Institute depicted a black child in a Cubs cap begging for money for school from a wealthy cigar-smoking white man, who was showing one pocket empty and the other stuffed with tax-increment financing money. State Rep. Jaime Andrade denounced the cartoon on the floor of the General Assembly, drawing a bipartisan standing ovation when he denounced it as “s—.”  State Rep. Christian Mitchell, D-Chicago, called it a “Sambo” cartoon.  State Rep. Tom Demmer, R-Dixon, agreed, tweeting “Cartoons don’t make racism any more palatable @illinoispolicy should delete their cartoon and apologize. That has no place in policy debate.” The response from Rauner’s office on Tuesday did not go over well with Mitchell. “Wait what? So being a white male removes @GovRauner from a position of moral leadership? This is more disgraceful than saying nothing,” Mitchell tweeted. The Illinois Policy Institute defended the cartoon, which was intended to depict how Chicago siphons money from education with TIF funds. The think tank denied that it was racist, but removed it from its website, saying it was distracting from the debate over education funding and “the failure of political leaders to address the root cause of our struggling education system.” The think tank has been aligned with the governor, and Rauner has tapped its staff to replace senior members of his own administration since his budget veto was overridden earlier this year. Even after the institute removed the cartoon, NBC5 Political Reporter Mary Ann Ahern kept the issue alive on Twitter, repeatedly questioning whether the governor had seen the cartoon and what his reaction was. Patrick finally responded Tuesday. “Charges of racism must be taken very seriously,” she said. “The tragedy in Charlottesville and its aftermath serve as sobering reminders that even today, some remain who would use violence and hate to divide us. We must never relent in working toward a future built not on what divides us, but what unites us.”)

CONSERVATIVE REVIEW
— These are the mainstream conservatives on CNN’s ‘hate group’ list  (DIERSEN: Sooner or later, if your group does not promote the Democrat Party platform, the Libertarian Party platform, and/or the Green Party platform, CNN and SPLC will call your group a “hate group.”)
https://www.conservativereview.com/articles/these-are-the-mainstream-conservatives-on-cnn-hate-group-list
(FROM THE ARTICLE: CNN has published a list of “hate groups” currently operating in the United States, relying on an extremely partisan analysis from the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Several truly extremist groups populate the list, such as the Ku Klux Klan, New Black Panthers, Nation of Islam, and others. But along with the neo-Nazi and Islamic extremist groups on the list, the SPLC has lumped in as “hate groups” mainstream, well-known conservative individuals and organizations who merely speak out about the threat of radical Islam. Here are some that were included on the list. . .SPLC/CNN BIAS  Since its founding, the SPLC has displayed an overt left-wing bias in attempts to smear conservatives as hateful bigots. The organization often turns a blind eye to leftist extremist groups, such as Antifa and Occupy Wall Street, while continuing attempts to tarnish the reputation of mainstream conservative groups that are supported by millions of Americans. By using the SPLC’s extremely biased list, CNN continues to showcase its partisan bias in favor of left-wing elements.)

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/18/world/asia/cambridge-university-press-academic-freedom.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One of the world’s oldest and most respected publishing houses, Cambridge University Press, has bowed to pressure from Beijing and removed sensitive content on its site in China. The content is published in China Quarterly, an academic journal run by the press. In a letter made public on social media on Friday, the editor of the journal, Tim Pringle, said Cambridge University Press had informed him that the authorities had ordered it to censor more than 300 articles related to issues like the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, Tibet, Xinjiang, Hong Kong and the Cultural Revolution. The publishing house’s site risked being shut down if it did not comply with the request, the letter said. In response to the government’s actions, the journal issued a statement expressing its “deep concern and disappointment.” “We note, too, that this restriction of academic freedom is not an isolated move but a further reflection of policies that have narrowed the space for public engagement and discussion across Chinese society,” the statement said. Dr. Pringle said in a telephone interview that Chinese academics, who had been publishing in the journal in increasing numbers, would suffer the most. “It’s not only a retrograde step in principle, but it affects Chinese scholars in particular” he said, because they will not have access to global scholarship on the country.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— State Reps. Elgie Sims (D) and David McSweeney (R) have come together on sponsoring a resolution condemning the acts in Charlottesville, Va. In it, they are crystal clear about this: “The act of violence was definitely an act of domestic terrorism,” the resolution proclaims. Read the resolution. (
https://www.scribd.com/document/356337002/House-Resolution-on-Charlottesville) It comes after the state Senate passed a similar measure on Sunday. The events make Gov. Bruce Rauner’s remarks on Monday all the more mystifying. Rauner initially refused to characterize the acts in Charlottesville as terrorism — even after the president was lambasted for two straight days after failing to come out more vehemently against the actions. Rauner appeared unprepared for the question Monday morning — and clearly had not seen the state Senate’s action on Sunday. After Democrats pounced, Rauner’s office released a statement declaring the act was indeed domestic terrorism. – Natasha Korecki (DIERSEN: Sadly, of course, members of Group A will use these resolutions to demonize, to denigrate, and to condemn members of Group B as being racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things. Members of Group A are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors and members of Group B are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German Americans, draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)

From working for the federal government for almost 30 years, I learned that the Democrats who run the federal government will waste your career and get rid of you if you are not a Democrat, and especially if you are a Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986. Further, non-veteran White males who are seeking a job with the federal government should be advised that with only rare exceptions, a) the longer that you are a federal employee, the less likely that private sector employers will hire you, b) your career will be wasted and you will be gotten rid of if you do not make GS-13 ($94,610) by age 25, GS-14 ($111,801) by age 30, GS-15 ($131,508) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service ($161,900) by age 40, c) you will be expected to help your superiors and supervisors get rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran, and d) virtually everyone despises if not hates federal employees, former federal employees, and federal retirees.)

ILLINOIS FAMILY INSTITUTE
— Chicago Trib Demagogue Who “Identifies” as Reporter, Goes After State Rep. Ives – Laurie Higgins  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, the Chicago Tribune promotes gender confusion and LGBTQ activity.)
https://illinoisfamily.org/education/chicago-trib-demagogue-identifies-reporter-goes-state-rep-ives/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I thought my view of the Chicago Tribune couldn’t get lower and then I read a piece by Mr. Kim Janssen on State Representative Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), one of the most courageous, ethical lawmakers in Springfield. Last week, Rep. Ives posted a link to my article titled “Christians Must Exit Government Schools” on her Facebook page. Subsequently, Janssen wrote an article titled “Lawmaker compares teachers who support transgender rights to ‘dirty old men,” ostensibly about Rep. Ives, which was published online Friday night. As I predicted, the Trib waited to publish it in their Sunday print edition rather than publishing it in the slim and little-read Saturday edition. It seems that the Trib powers-that-be want to use my politically incorrect writing to do as much political damage to Rep. Ives as possible. Clarification for the Trib: Lawmaker Ives did not compare teachers who support alleged “transgender rights” to dirty old men. I compared teachers who expose children to obscene material to dirty old men. Further clarification: Gender-dysphoric persons have no ethical or moral “right” to use opposite sex restrooms and locker rooms. In an email to Rep. Ives after his article was published, Janssen doubled-down on the absurd claim that objectively male and objectively female persons have a “right” to access opposite-sex private spaces, accusing Rep. Ives of having a “history of opposition to transgender rights.” Janssen’s assertion reveals his ideological bias. “Trans”-identifying persons have no more ethical “right” to use opposite-sex facilities than do I or Mr. Janssen. The current manifestation of the sexual revolution is not a fight for equal rights or a fight to gain rights that have been denied to some group. Artificially feminized men and artificially virilized women are declaring that they deserve special, a-historical privileges. They have decided that while all other humans must use private spaces that correspond to their objective, immutable biological sex, they—that is, “trans”-identifying persons—may use private spaces that do not correspond to their objective, immutable biological sex. They are demanding to be treated differently from most humans. Perhaps a better way to define what gender-pretenders are doing is to say they have arrogated the unilateral authority to declare that all spaces in which humans undress or engage in bodily functions will no longer correspond to objective, immutable sex but, rather, will correspond to subjective, internal feelings about one’s sex. “Trans”-identifying persons, however, have no authority or right to decide that feelings trump objective sex when it comes to accessing private spaces. In his “news” article about Rep. Ives—really an article about my article—Janssen cites the ethically impoverished Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which labels IFI a “hate group” based on our views of volitional homoerotic activity, marriage, and the “trans” ideology, views with which the SPLC disagrees. The only way IFI, which holds orthodox theological views, can be deemed a “hate group” is by redefining hatred.)

FEDERAL NEWS RADIO
— Draining the swamp: Now what? – Mike Causey  (DIERSEN: Just kidding, but Trump should nominate me to head OPM.  My bachelor’s degree from NIU in personnel management.  Personnel management was my area of concentration for my MBA.  I have almost 30 years experience working for the federal government, almost 3 years experience working for the Post Office, almost 9 years experience working for IRS, the last 5 1/2 years of which as a GS-12 Step 1-5, currently $79,563-$90,173, almost 18 years working for GAO, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10, currently $94,610-$122,991. Since 1989, GAO has used Nesterczuk’s “banding” to get rid of its employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
https://federalnewsradio.com/federal-report/2017/08/draining-the-swamp-now-what/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The surprise decision of George Nesterczuk to withdraw as a candidate to head the Office of Personnel Management cheered federal unions and some, maybe many, feds who remember the Reagan years as a nervous time to be a fed. But his withdrawal from consideration can also be viewed as a blow to the administration’s promise/threat to shake, rattle and roll the federal bureaucracy, making it skinnier and more responsive. And less fireproof. Or not. It is equally possible that the next OPM director, when nominated and confirmed, could come in with an even tougher agenda, but with less knowledge of how the civil service systems function. Nesterczuk’s departure — five months after he was nominated — is also an example of the problems many agencies are facing because so many key political jobs are either vacant or held by appointees from the Obama administration. The rudderless OPM has been without a confirmed director since 2015. Although the agency is little known outside of government and outside of Washington, it plays a critical role in the work lives of civil servants and retirees. Nesterczuk’s first federal job was as an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. After leaving government, he was active in Republican politics in Maryland and ran Ronald Reagan’s campaign in the state. He was later appointed as associate director for executive personnel at OPM under its controversial director Donald Devine. During the Reagan years, many federal workers — and especially federal and postal unions — felt unloved, at best, and under attack at worst. Nesterczuk drew additional union fire for helping set up a Bush administration initiative called the National Security Personnel System. It was a Defense Department program the administration hoped to expand to other agencies. Under it, managers would have the ability to set employee pay within bands (rather than the traditional 15 grades) based on their performance. Unions balked at it, and complained that they had little input. As a result, the 200,000 workers put under the NSPS were all from outside union bargaining units. Pay raises for many exceeded the regular annual federal pay raises. This being Washington, each side had a conspiracy theory with each claiming both success and the moral high ground. The Bush administration said it was proof that when motivated and given more opportunities, workers rose to the challenge. Unions said the same thing, in reverse. They claimed that political appointees at the Pentagon gave NSPS workers bigger raises to prove that the new system worked, And possibly stick it to unions too. In any case, the Democratic Congress unraveled it and the 200,000 feds who had been under the NSPS were blended back into their previous grades, but often at higher pay. For critics of the Reagan administration’s approach to the federal workforce, Nesterczuk is credited/blamed for working under and closely with Devine during what some people refer to as the “Devine Years.” One former congressional staffer-turned lobbyist who followed the federal-postal beat said: “Remembering that the demise of the CSRS retirement plan occurred as a result of the bipartisan agreement between Democrat Tip O’Neill and Republican Ronald Reagan to bail out Social Security by forcing new federal employees into that program, Mr. Nesterczuk’s previous tenure at OPM was marked by no significant lasting cuts in employee benefits, the congressional establishment of the successful Federal Employees Retirement System (over the objections of Nesterczuk and his old boss [Devine] who wanted only a “super IRA” for feds), and the start of significant membership growth by at least two civil service unions that have sustained their efforts to this very day. The unions may cheer Nesterczuk’s withdrawal, but it is useful to remember that his past record is one of ineffectiveness. Now President Trump has a chance to nominate someone who can really do some damage.”)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-arrupe-college-loyola-university-met-20170805-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Loyola University Chicago was Blanca Rodriguez’s dream school. The Jesuit institution’s $21,000 tuition was out of the question for her family, but Rodriguez soon will be a Loyola graduate anyway thanks to a program for low-income students designed to get them halfway to a bachelor’s degree with little or no debt. Rodriguez is in the first graduating class of Arrupe College, a two-year program run by Loyola at its Water Tower Campus in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Established in 2015, Arrupe offers three types of associate degrees, mostly fulfilling general education requirements that will enable students to segue into bachelor’s programs at other schools. Arrupe’s students are among the city’s most vulnerable — and not just because they often cannot afford tuition. Many students or their parents are living in the U.S. illegally and face a threat of deportation. Some experience homelessness or food insecurity. Others are young parents. Many live in crime-plagued neighborhoods, have lost close relatives to gun violence and avoid taking late-day classes because they are scared to use public transportation at night.)

— Why some employers are becoming more generous with retirement savings plans – Gail MarksJarvis  (DIERSEN: From the beginning of time, government employees and government retirees have been viciously demonized, viciously denigrated, and viciously condemned. Because of that, to hire and to retain employees, governments have had to pay higher salaries and offer better retirement and other benefits. Many millions have not and will not seek a job with the federal government a) because the pay and benefits are terrible, b) because the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) because they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) because they cannot pass an employment examination, e) because they cannot pass a background investigation, f) because they cannot pass a physical examination, g) because they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or h) because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against the aforesaid.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/columnists/ct-companies-give-employees-more-401k-money-marksjarvis-column-0807-biz-20170803-column.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In an effort to recruit employees in competitive fields and help motivate older workers to leave the workplace when they hit retirement age, companies are becoming more generous with their retirement savings plans. After pulling back on the extras during the recession, companies are devoting more to 401(k) matches, the free money they give employees who participate in company retirement savings plans.)

SHILLER (DIERSEN: My outstanding parents enabled me to seek the “American Dream.” They had me baptized as a Missouri Synod Lutheran (MSL) in 1948. They sent me to Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Crete 1953-1961 and then to Hope Lutheran Grade School in Park Forest 1961-1962 to stay with the Missouri Synod. They had me confirmed as a MSL in 1962. They sent me to Crete-Monee High School 1962-1966. They provided room a board while attended UIC 1966-1968, weekends during my first semester at NIU in 1969, and the summer of 1969. The aforesaid enabled me to have jobs doing yard work and delivering newspapers 1962-1964; washing dishes 1964-1966; cleaning golf shoes, chipping slag, and pumping gasoline in 1966; delivering mail 1966-1969; and working on an automobile assemble line and as a security guard in 1970. The aforesaid allowed me to buy a 1958 Chevy BelAir in 1964, a new 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint in 1966, a new 1968 Oldsmobile 442 in 1967, and a new 1969 Dodge Charger SE in 1968. The aforesaid enabled me to graduate debt-free from NIU in 1970.)

SALON
— Salon struggling to pay its rent – Keith J. Kelly  (DIERSEN: GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are free and they contain no advertising because I can afford to donate all the time and all the money needed to put the emails out each and every morning and each and every evening.  I donate 10+ hours each and every day and thousands of dollars each year for internet services, newspaper and magazine subscriptions, etc.  Further, he who pays the piper calls the tunes and I only want the Republican Party platform, the Illinois Republican Party platform, and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling to call my tunes.)
