http://thehill.com/policy/finance/361614-gop-tax-bill-draws-fire-from-aarp-universities?rnd=1511653804
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The AARP has raised concerns about provisions in both the House and Senate bills, warning they would be harmful to older Americans. Both bills would increase the deficit and could trigger cuts to Medicare if Congress doesn’t waive sequestration rules for federal spending. The AARP is also concerned that many seniors would see their taxes go up under the bills. There are also provisions unique to the House and Senate bills that the group opposes. The AARP opposes the House’s push to repeal the deduction for medical expenses and the Senate’s push to repeal the ObamaCare individual mandate. Housing industry Key groups in the housing industry took issue with the tax bills even before they were released, warning that they reduce incentives for homeownership. Both bills would substantially increase the size of the standard deduction taxpayers can take. This would reduce the number of people who take the mortgage interest deduction and concentrate those who do claim the preference at the upper end of the income scale. The House bill would cap the mortgage interest deduction for new mortgages at the first $500,000, down from $1 million under current law, and would eliminate the deduction for second homes. It also would eliminate the deduction for state and local income and sales taxes and would cap the deduction for state and local property taxes at $10,000. The Senate bill does not curb the mortgage deduction, but it would completely eliminate the property-tax deduction. . .Charities Nonprofits have several concerns with the GOP’s legislation. The increase in the standard deduction in the House and Senate bills would reduce the number of people who would claim the itemized deduction for charitable contributions. Charities are concerned that this change could lead to a decline in charitable giving. Additionally, the House bill would scale back the “Johnson amendment” that prevents churches and other organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from endorsing or opposing political candidates. Under the House bill, nonprofits would be allowed to engage in political speech from 2019 to 2023 as long as the speech is in the ordinary course of business and expenses related to the speech is minimal. Nonprofits generally oppose curbing the Johnson amendment because they think doing so would inject partisan politics into charities.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Don’t be fooled: The GOP tax plan won’t benefit everyone – DICK DURBIN AND TAMMY DUCKWORTH (DIERSEN: Please contact Congressman Roskam ASAP and urge him to oppose cutting any itemized deductions. According to this article, more than 50 percent of the taxpayers in Roskam’s 6th Congressional District deduct state and local taxes (SALT). Are you and your spouse among them? My wife and I are. If you are, how much were your itemized deductions last year? For the Diersens, they were $30,890 — $13,859 medical and dental expenses, $14,303 SALT ($12,835 real estate tax and $1,468 income tax), and $2,728 charitable contributions. Last year, my 87-year-old aunt’s medical deductions were $74,050. One should expect that every year, the higher that your real estate taxes and medical expenses will be. What do you say to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who demonize, denigrate, and condemn a) old people like me and b) those like my wife and I who itemize our deductions?)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20171110/OPINION/171119997
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Last week, House Republicans released the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which would add more than $1.5 trillion to the federal deficit and gives massive tax cuts to large corporations and the wealthy, paid for on the backs of working families in Illinois and across the country. Using a partisan legislative process, the House Republicans’ plan lowers the rate at which corporate profits—currently at record highs—are taxed, while eliminating or restricting numerous deductions and tax benefits used by middle-income families to reduce their tax bills. Along with eliminating vital tax benefits such as the medical expense deduction and the student loan interest deduction, House Republicans gut the deduction for state and local taxes, or SALT, which 44 million Americans nationwide use to avoid being doubled taxed on their hard-earned income. Illinois has the fifth-highest number of taxpayers who benefit from this deduction, with 85 percent of them making under $200,000 per year. Nearly 2 million Illinoisans—roughly one-third of all taxpayers in the state— claim an average deduction of $12,500. Yesterday, Rep. Peter Roskam, a Republican from Wheaton and chairman of the House Tax Policy Committee, extolled the plan, in a piece published here, for benefiting everyone. Because the House GOP plan guts the state and local tax deduction, more than 50 percent of the taxpayers in the 6th Congressional District—represented by Roskam—could see their taxes increase if this plan became law. Out of the entire nation, Roskam’s district has the 12th-highest percentage of taxpayers benefitting from the SALT deduction. Seventy-nine percent of them earn less than $200,000. What does this mean for families? It means that a married couple with two children living in west suburban Wayne, straddling DuPage and Kane counties inside Roskam’s district, and making $50,000 to $75,000 annually would see a tax increase of about $1,100 under the House Republican tax plan. And the bad news doesn’t stop there. Many of the families our Republican colleagues claim their plan would help would actually see costs increase over time—because the provisions affecting those families are written in disappearing ink that fades over time. This means that under the House Republican plan, 20 percent of all taxpayers in Illinois would see their taxes rise by 2027—with taxes rising an average of $1,670 per taxpayer. At the same time, the richest 1 percent in Illinois would receive an average tax cut of $56,850 next year and $75,050 by 2027. With U.S. corporations earning record profits, exploding our deficit to benefit the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans is no way to provide relief to the millions of working families in Illinois who need a helping hand. Low- and middle-income Americans, whose spending accounts for two-thirds of the economic productivity in our country, should be the focus of any tax reform plan that Congress considers. Instead, the House Republican tax plan burdens middle-income Americans and the small businesses that power our economy, while lining the pocketbooks of the ultra-wealthy, including President Donald Trump’s friends and family. Illinoisans deserve better than the House Republican plan, which Roskam enthusiastically supports.)

DAILY HERALD
— Winners and losers in the Senate GOP tax plan – Heather Long
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20171110/analysis-winners-and-losers-in-the-senate-gop-tax-plan
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Losers People living in high-tax states such as New York and California. All state and local tax deductions (SALT) are gone in the Senate plan. Taxpayers would lose the ability to deduct their state and local property and other taxes from their federal taxes, a break used by about 44 million people (or 30 percent of tax filers.) A number of Republican House members insisted on only a partial repeal in the House bill, but the Senate has gone for a full repeal in an effort to raise more money to pay for tax cuts elsewhere.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Democratic senators issue unusual warning – Rick Pearson

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-ald-burke-truck-terrorism-task-force-chicago-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois’ two Democratic U.S. senators issued an unusual warning Thursday for residents of two suburban congressional districts represented by Republicans. The pointed notice from U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth to Republican U.S. Reps. Peter Roskam of Wheaton and Randy Hultgren of Plano came on the day the House Ways and Means Committee advanced the House GOP’s tax proposal. Roskam is a member of the powerful House committee and is its tax policy chairman. He is facing scrutiny over portions of the plan that limit mortgage and property-tax deductions and eliminate state income tax deductions. In separate notices, Durbin and Duckworth issued statements on what Roskam and Hultgren’s congressional districts stand “to lose” if Republicans are successful “in passing their tax cuts for the wealthy.” In the Roskam statement, the senators say: “A married couple with two children living in Wayne … making $50,000-$75,000 annually would see a tax increase of about $1,100 under the House Republican Tax Plan.” In the Hultgren statement, the senators say: “A single person living in Plainfield, Bolingbrook, and Aurora … making $25,000-$50,000 annually would see a tax increase of about $700 under the House Republican Tax Plan.” The senators say their information is based on analyses by several groups, some with Democratic leanings, including the Tax Policy Center, Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Government Finance Officers Association, the National Association of Counties, the Economic Policy Institute and the Joint Committee on Taxation. The response: For his part, Roskam issued a statement saying the effort toward changing the nation’s tax laws was the “most significant step” in 30 years. “Americans are yearning to see real tax relief and the work we’ve done on this bill respects and rewards hardworking, middle-class families in my district and across the country and allows us to grow a healthy economy and more jobs,” Roskam said.)
— Former cabinet member Ray LaHood says GOP, Democrats need to work together – David Sharos (DIERSEN: Whenever Republican and Democrat leaders “work together,” Republicans lose. Beyond outrageously, beyond tragically, the Republican Party lets people, that this, lets Democrat plants, lets Libertarian plants, lets Green plants, and lets RINOs hold leadership positions in the party. — Trump’s complicated history with Vietnam Trump avoided Vietnam draft through deferments – DAN MERICA (DIERSEN: Were you 1-A, that is, were you fit for military service? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osgood%E2%80%93Schlatter_disease). If I would seek a government office or a political office, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would stress that got student draft deferments 1966-1970 while I attended UIC and NIU and a financial hardship deferment 1970-1971. They would demonize me, denigrate me, and condemn me as being a patriotic hypocrite, a coward, and even worse things.)
http://www.mystateline.com/news/politics/trumps-complicated-history-with-vietnam/854988532
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Looming over the President’s visit — which includes a stop in the Vietnamese capitol of Hanoi — is the fact that Trump received multiple deferments during the Vietnam War. He also later compared his work and social life as a real estate developer in New York to the sacrifices made by American soldiers in the distant country. The focus also comes just weeks after Republican Sen. John McCain, the most well-known Vietnam War veteran in American politics, appeared to take a jab at Trump for receiving the deferments, intimating that the President dodged the draft that swept up less affluent Americans…Trump’s deferments Trump attended the private New York Military Academy in high school, but he avoided the draft through a series of education and health deferments. After receiving four deferments due to education, Trump was diagnosed with bone spurs in his heels at the age of 22 in 1968, seven years before the Vietnam War ended. The diagnosis earned him a 1-Y medical deferment, meaning he was barred from military service in the same year that roughly 300,000 troops were enlisted into the military. Trump has defended the deferments in the past. In a 2016 interview with The New York Times, Trump said that a doctor “gave me a letter — a very strong letter — on the heels.” “Over a period of time, it healed up,” he added. And in a 2015 biography, Trump told Michael D’Antonio that the bone spurs were “not a big problem, but it was enough of a problem” that it made him unable to march long distances. Trump’s draft deferments became political issues during the 2016 election, especially after he attacked the family of a fallen solider who spoke at the Democratic National Convention. But it was the comment from McCain, a member of Trump’s own party, that seemed to deride Trump the most. McCain, in an interview with CSPAN, appeared to take a swipe at Trump when he criticized people from “the highest income level” who avoided the draft by finding a doctor who “would say that they had a bone spur.” McCain never mentions Trump by name in the interview, but the President’s deferment because of a bone spur is widely known and the President’s family was well off at the time. McCain, who said he wasn’t talking about Trump, added later that he didn’t believe Trump was a draft dodger…His own ‘Vietnam’ Years after avoiding the draft, Trump had made light of service in the Vietnam War by comparing it to both his professional and social endeavors and by deriding those who have served. Trump, known for being a fixture in the New York tabloids at the time, agreed with Howard Stern in 1998 when the shock jock suggested that avoiding sexually transmitted diseases in New York was “your Vietnam.” “It’s Vietnam,” Trump said. “It is very dangerous. So I’m very, very careful.” Earlier in the interview, first reported by CNN’s KFile, Trump said he was “getting the Congressional Medal of Honor” because of his ability to stay alive with “screwing a lot of women.” And Trump kicked off his feud with McCain, a fight that has lasted years, but stating in 2015 that McCain was not a war hero because he was captured during the Vietnam War. “He is not a war hero,” Trump said. “He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured, OK? I hate to tell you. He is a war hero because he was captured.” McCain served in the Navy until 1981, where he was famously a prisoner of war at H?a Lò Prison. McCain declined early release during his over five years in captivity, a benefit that would have been granted to him because his father was an admiral in the Navy.)

According to local Kentucky news station WNKY-TV, the FBI launched an investigation into the attack shortly after it happened. They believe the attack, which occurred Friday afternoon, was politically motivated. The Daily Caller revealed Saturday evening that the assailant, 59-year-old Rene Boucher, is a registered Democrat whose Facebook page was riddled with posts voicing his opposition to President Donald Trump and the GOP. What happened? Boucher allegedly assaulted Paul while he was mowing his lawn around 3:20 p.m. Friday afternoon. PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Rauner and our Illinois Republican future – Christopher Robling
http://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511244022-rauner-and-our-illinois-republican-future
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I think Jeanne Ives, or any of another five or six party luminaries, defeats Rauner in the primary on announcement.  His money will not matter. His flannel shirts will not attract. His commercials will persuade no one. He may attack Jeanne, the way he did Aaron and Dan. But for what? Goodness knows. Regardless, it will reduce his vote, not hers. Attacking a Wheaton mom who was among the first female West Point grads, a decorated logistics officer in the U.S. Army, who has earned her spurs in Springfield, worked with Democrats to pass important bills for all of us, and who has never strayed from her stated political beliefs in conservatism and rooting out Illinois corruption? The only campaign person who might recommend such a course probably led Mark Kirk’s re-elect effort. I know, Rauner bought the party. I do not think it matters. I know the State Central Committee is urged to hold the line. But, for what? For this? The party of Reagan? To this we have sunk? What have we delivered to the people – all of the people, from the South Side to Southern Illinois, from Western Illinois University to Northwestern – what have those folks gotten from Rauner and us that is worthy of us holding anything for him? Does any one of us believe that Rauner will get to the re-apportionment table? Or, if one thinks he will, on what basis might one think Rauner would deliver the best map possible for Illinoisans under those circumstances? Instead, for this all-encompassing task, Rauner’s petty personalization against Madigan has shown him uniquely unqualified. I thought Bruce Rauner was a fresh breeze. I thought he was technocrat who would save our finances. I did not expect a conservative, per se, but after his pitch to Jack Roeser, I was promised Bruce would never be a liberal. I got a whopping tax hike, Sanctuary State, Transgender Birth Certificates and taxpayer-funded abortion on demand through nine-months of pregnancy. What is so horrid about Rauner’s incumbency, and what is fatal to his cause, is that his screw-ups repel the reasonable voters, neither stridently “D,” nor “R,” who simply do not want to give everything to the Democrats in November 2018. These folks are the key to 2018. They are not partisans. They are our only path to the reapportionment conversation. I believe Rauner has irrevocably lost them for his serial incompetence. Rauner cannot be our future because of his past 32 months. Will Jeanne Ives, or Dan Cronin, or Peter Roskam, or David McSweeney, or Peter Breen or someone else get those voters? At this moment, I think each would beat Bruce on announcement, and each would qualify as a safe harbor for November voters who have had enough one-party domination. Maybe that is the slogan: “End One-Party Domination, Defeat Rauner.” Count me in. Now, who is the candidate?)

— Tennessee GOP Tightens Rules for Who Can Run as Republican – AP (DIERSEN: In my opinion, rules for who can run as a Republican in Illinois should be made much tighter. Ever-increasingly, voters in my precinct who cast Republican primary ballots make it clear to me that they vote for Democrats in general elections. Ever-increasingly, candidates who have cast Republican primary ballots make it clear to everyone that they are really RINOs, Democrats, Libertarians, or Greens. Most commonly they reject the traditional family, right to life, immigration, illegal drugs, and equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks in the Republican Party platform and the Illinois Republican Party platform. Most commonly, they reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) resolution against video gambling.  Most commonly, they focus on getting rid of Republicans like me who support the aforesaid planks and resolution. They stress that I am no longer a TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, MTRCC webmaster, Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member, GAO employee, etc.)
https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/tennessee/articles/2017-10-07/tennessee-gop-tightens-rules-for-who-can-run-as-republican
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the little-noticed change to party bylaws approved this summer, candidates must now have voted in three out of the last four GOP state or federal level primaries to be considered bona fide Republican candidates. For candidates seeking to appear on next year’s ballot that will mean voting histories can be scrutinized going back to the August 2012 primary. The previous standard was for candidates to have voted in two of the last four GOP primaries. Exceptions in the new rules will be made for candidates not old enough to have voted in the last four primaries, moved from another state or had an illness or military service that prevented them from voting. A letter from established Republicans to vouch for GOP newcomers could override the primary voting requirement, at the chairman’s discretion. Challenging a candidate’s bona fide status requires a complaint from two Republican voters. But in another change, those complaints must be made from the same district the candidate is running in to avoid activists from trying to interfere with races outside their home areas. Golden, who will have the final say over all challenges, said he expects successful efforts to oust candidates to be rare.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The situation is sickeningly familiar to anyone who works on — or reads — a metropolitan daily newspaper, whether it’s in New Orleans, Detroit or just about any other American city. The paper is hurting financially. It cuts reporters, photographers and editors to make ends meet. Then it cuts even deeper. The journalism suffers, but the paper’s work is still vital to its community. And a question looms: Will it even survive the next decade? “The real crisis in American journalism is at the local and metro level,” says Jim Friedlich, executive director of the Lenfest Institute for Journalism in Philadelphia, founded last year to save local journalism in Philadelphia and spread the cure around the nation. With the death of their old business model — based on once-plentiful print advertising — newsrooms are trying something new, he said. Like never before, they are turning to philanthropic sources and community support for sustenance.)

CBS2
— Abortion Opponents Say Gov. Rauner Betrayed Them – Bob Roberts
http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/09/30/abortion-opponents-say-gov-rauner-betrayed-them/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Young opponents of abortion gathered outside the Thompson Center to denounce Gov. Bruce Rauner and the new law he signed this week that provides for taxpayer financing of abortion. GOP politicians called Rauner’s decision “political suicide.” One ally called  him “Benedict Rauner” in a Facebook post. The governor agreed to be scratched from a southwest suburban GOP picnic. The youthful anti-abortion protesters who gathered at the Thompson Center called the governor’s decision to sign HB-40 a grave disappointment. David Cordaro is with the organization Students For Life. “Governor Rauner betrayed us. He betrayed the Republican party. And he betrayed the pro-life generation,” said Cordaro. He is not backing any specific candidates yet. But says the group will support primary challengers who oppose taxpayer funding of abortions. Add State Sen. Dan McConchie and Rep. Tom Morrison to the list of legislators who say they’ve told Gov. Rauner he’s finished politically. McConchie said Republican lawmakers tried to convince Rauner to veto the bill. “There is no way that I can in any further election going forward stand with Gov. Rauner after he lied in regards to this. After he told Cardinal (Blase Cupich) one thing and then did something else,” said McConchie. That is not leadership. That is not the courageous leadership that we need to have in our state.” They encouraged the youthful abortion opponents to find candidates who oppose taxpayer funded abortions and to work for them.)

http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/09/aclu-dances-on-the-grave-of-henry-hyde-thanks-to-republican-gov-rauner.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE:  Despite his campaign rhetoric, Bruce Rauner may go down in history as one of Illinois’ most socially and culturally transformative governors. He’ll certainly be listed among the most effective for the Democrat, progressive left. On Thursday, Rauner signed into law the widely unpopular HB 40, which lifts the ban on taxpayer funding of elective abortions and codifies Illinois as a pro-abortion state regardless of what the U.S. Supreme Court may decide regarding Roe v. Wade. Not surprisingly, the ACLU is ecstatic and hailing Rauner as a hero of their ghoulish, “pro-choice” cause. They’re also dancing on the grave of the late Illinois Congressman Henry Hyde, who, 41 years ago today, passed the Hyde Amendment that banned taxpayer funding of abortion and saved approximately 2 million unborn lives. With the help of Gov. Rauner – who promised voters he had “no social agenda” – the ACLU sees Illinois as a harbinger of future victories across the country. They may be politically and eugenically correct, but they’ll be culturally, ethically, and historically wrong. Thank you Gov. Rauner.)

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/09/29/southern-poverty-law-center-put-me-on-its-hate-list-it-s-smear-and-don-t-belong-there.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s an understatement to say that I was dumbfounded as to how I ended up on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) LGBTQ hate-list — I have never said or done anything to indicate hate for the LGBTQ community. When I called to inquire, SPLC informed me that I am guilty because I did a radio interview with Family Research Council Radio (FRC). I am a program coordinator for The Leadership Institute’s Campus Reform. org. The segment was about socialism, but because FRC holds traditional family values, I was labeled an LGBT-hater just for being a guest on the show. No LGBT topics even came-up. SPLC’s hate-list exemplifies a bullying tactic employed by the left to silence conservative ideas. Regardless of the issue, support for the conservative point of view results in a litany of hateful labels and reputation-smearing. The goal is to paint any opposition to the far left as morally depraved and, therefore, unworthy of being included in conversation. Dr. Carol Swain, an African-American woman and former Vanderbilt professor, is a perfect case-in-point; she was labeled a white supremacist sympathizer by the SPLC for pointing-out SPLC’s hypocrisy on racial issues. This tactic is more than illogical; it’s dangerous. Reckless and irresponsible hate-labeling not only stifles free speech and expression, it empowers and emboldens vicious groups and individuals to violently attack people. Consider the 2012 Family Research Council shooting, when a man walked into the organization’s office in Washington, D.C., with 100 rounds of ammunition and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches. He planned to kill as many staff members as possible and smear the sandwiches in their faces. He said he chose his target based on SPLC’s Hate Map.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mayor Rahm Emanuel has positioned himself as the defender of illegal immigrants ever since Donald Trump campaigned for president on a promise to build a wall along the Mexican border, order mass deportations and cut off federal funding to sanctuary cities. But it’s another story when it comes to implementing the city program tailor-made to ensure that Chicago’s nearly 400,000 “limited English proficient” residents can access city services.)

You look up and see that huge billboard for someone’s latest film, and think, ‘What?! What’s that?! How did he get that? Nobody told me about that!’ ” The entertainment business is rife with people making those kinds of comparisons, he said, but “no matter what you do, I know people are comparing their lives and levels of success to others, whether they be lawyers, hedge-fund guys, retailers or salesmen.”)

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER
— Raoul enters AG race, apologizes for ‘Miss America’ comment – Bernard Schoenburg
http://www.sj-r.com/news/20170920/raoul-enters-ag-race-apologizes-for-miss-america-comment
(FROM THE ARTICLE: State Sen. Kwame Raoul, D-Chicago, who says he will run for attorney general in 2018, on Wednesday apologized for how he referred to Republican candidate Erika Harold when discussing the office last week. “I’ve seen the reaction to the comment that I made, and I don’t blame anybody for being offended,” Raoul told The State Journal-Register. “If I read them without the full context of our full conversation, I would have the same reaction. … I take full responsibility for the bad characterization.” Raoul told the newspaper on Friday, after Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced she would not seek another term, that “I think Lisa would have acquitted herself well against Miss America. I don’t know what’s behind the attorney general’s decision … but I doubt seriously it was any fear of Erika Harold.” Harold, of Urbana, was the 2003 Miss America, and is also a graduate of Harvard Law School, and now practices law. The story yielded a statement from state Rep. Jeanne Ives, R-Wheaton, calling Raoul’s statement “blatant and belittling sexism.” “As a cadet at West Point and a woman in the political arena, I have spent much of my career fighting the dismissive, condescending sexism Senator Raoul so brazenly exhibited in his attempt to frame Ms. Harold as ‘just a pretty face,’” Ives said. “I do apologize, first off to Erika Harold, because … I don’t think it’s a small accomplishment to be Miss America,” Raoul said Wednesday. “In addition, her academic credentials are exceptional.” He said the point he was making in the full conversation last week was that he didn’t think Madigan was scared out of the race. “I think my record and people who know me demonstrates that I’m not a sexist,” Raoul said. “But I do apologize, first off to Erika Harold and to anybody else who took my comments to be intended to be demeaning to Miss Harold.”)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— DISCUSSION: SHOULD REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES UPHOLD THE IL GOP PLATFORM? (DIERSEN: I served on the 2008 Illinois Republican Party (IRP) Platform and Resolutions Committee. Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. In Illinois, if you have not and/or if you are not going to defend and advance the IRP platform, you should not seek or hold any kind of government office or political office as a Republican. In Illinois, when Republican elected officials and/or party leaders fail or refuse to defend and advance the IRP platform, the IRP should not only work against them, the IRP should censure them or remove them from the office(s) that they hold. In Illinois, when Republican candidates fail or refuse to commit to defend and advance the IRP platform, the IRP should not only work against them, the IRP should have the power to remove them from the ballot.)
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/09/should-republican-candidates-uphold-the-il-gop-platform-.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Delegates representing the party’s rank and file at the 2016 Illinois Republican Convention resoundingly embraced the Platform Committee’s recommended planks. Last year’s most controversial plank was the party’s view on upholding traditional marriage. Observers counted nearly 85 percent of the delegates supporting one-man, one-woman marriage. A subsequent vote on the whole platform confirmed the delegates support for the platform. But since that time, there has been a growing discussion about just how important – or unimportant – a political party’s platform is. . .How important is the IL GOP’s party platform? Do you think candidates should hold to the planks if they are elected? Or is it merely a suggestion and irrelevant as a whole? Please comment either here on Illinois Review’s website or on Illinois Review’s Facebook page. Your ideas matter.)
