(FROM THE ARTICLE: Wednesday, the Illinois Senate approved Chris Meister, who is currently leading the Illinois Finance Authority, to be the new auditor. State Sen. Chapin Rose, who serves on the Legislative Audit Commission, said Meister suggested bringing back a deputy director position for the office. “At the end of the day, you’re getting someone with that breadth of government knowledge, extreme financial management experience,” said Rose, R-Mahomet. “And then I believe ultimately we’re also going to pick up, as a bonus, one of our other candidates. And at the end of the day, this body, and the entire General Assembly and frankly, the taxpayers of Illinois will be enormously well served with Mr. Meister at the helm.” The auditor general is responsible for financial audits and compliance examinations of state agencies. Laura Ellman praised Rose’s nomination for Chris Meister to be the new auditor. “This was a once in a 10 year activity,” Ellman, D-Naperville, said of selecting a new auditor general. “Nobody was really good at it. She announced her office has set up a special phone number, (630) 407-5634, for people to report if they see U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or other federal agents at or near a polling place. “Today, my office has a message for the voters of DuPage County and for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and that message is that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will not be allowed to interfere with DuPage County elections in any way,” Kaczmarek said at a news conference. She said it is a federal crime for military or federal agents to interfere in elections or intimidate voters. “Those crimes will not be tolerated in DuPage County. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Public attitudes in Korea toward poverty remain sharply divided, with a majority of respondents attributing hardship to a lack of individual effort, while low-income families point instead to structural barriers that keep them at the margins, according to a survey released Tuesday. The 2025 Korean Welfare Panel Study, conducted jointly by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs and the Seoul National University Social Welfare Research Institute, found that 89.6 percent of 2,661 respondents cited insufficient motivation and effort as the main cause of poverty. Nearly nine out of 10 respondents, or 88.3 percent, pointed to a lack of frugality or poor household financial management, suggesting that for a majority of Koreans, economic hardship is still seen largely as a matter of personal responsibility and discipline. Because the survey allowed participants to weigh multiple contributing factors independently, the total percentages exceed 100 percent. In contrast, only 62.8 percent blamed inborn ability or talent, and just 12 percent viewed it as a “very important” factor, indicating that poverty is rarely regarded as unchangeable or predetermined. The perception gap widened when broken down by income level. Among middle- and high-income households, 90.2 percent said personal effort was central in determining poverty, compared with 85.5 percent of low-income households. The share who said effort is “very important” dropped from 37.8 percent in the general group to 27.9 percent among low-income respondents, while those who saw a lack of frugality as a very important cause also fell from 40.0 percent to 30.3 percent. Experts warn that this heavy emphasis on individual responsibility can serve as a secondary form of punishment for those already struggling. Labeling poverty primarily as the result of laziness or weak will risks isolating low-income Koreans, undermining their self-worth and weakening social cohesion, they noted. Most commonly, they hint/imply/argue/shout that I painted them as being more conservative than they wanted to be painted, and that caused them to lose. According to them, I am far too conservative, and because of that, the more that I do to help them, the more votes that they will not get. Most commonly, they blame articles that I linked to in my newsletters that they do not like. Because Democrat and RINO leaders have ever-increasingly painted me so negatively, Republican candidates ever-increasingly make it clear that they do not want my help to get elected. At GAO, they forced me to take a $23,699 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS in 1980, delayed my promotions and never promoted me beyond GS-13, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance, and forced me to retire when I was 49 in 1997.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Turning Point USA represents a threat to campus and must not be approved, according to student government leaders at Elmhurst University in suburban Chicago. However, university officials say they are “monitoring the situation.” Campus club founder Tim Dudasik recently spoke to The College Fix via a phone interview about his fight to start a chapter of the free-market student club at the private college in Elmhurst. He said student government leaders believe TPUSA is an “unsafe threat to campus.” While the senior always had an interest in politics, the assassination of Charlie Kirk, inspired him to start his own chapter. He said he “immediately filed an application” to start a chapter after the September 10, 2025 assassination of Turning Point USA’s founder. He initially had problems finding a faculty sponsor, emailing at least 25 professors without success. However, he told The Fix that multiple professors reached out to him after a student newspaper story came out about the new organization. Yet, he ran into further problems when he had to present to the student government and his peers denied his request for official recognition. That means the club is not allowed to meet in classrooms or “congregate on campus in any way.” The denial also prevents the club from doing something Dudasik is passionate about: “The big idea [with Turning Point] is tabling – being able to be on campus, talk about politics, religion, and all these divisive topics,” he said. “But without being officially recognized by the school, you can’t do that.” The chapter’s next steps are to address a list of concerns that the Student Government had provided them. “We’re… essentially [going to] go through the same process we did last semester, [to] address their concerns,” Dudasik said. “And if denied again, our next step is to become loud and vocal […a]nd to really express the need and desire for an organization like this on campus, because the more the school realizes that it’s something that’s wanted, it becomes something that’s harder for them to deny.” Still, Dudasik has found ways to organize his like-minded peers – a virtual event with former Olympian Anthony Watson drew 52 interested students. The national Turning Point USA also recognizes the chapter. Elmhurst officials won’t commit to approving the club.  The university confirmed to The Fix that the student government must first approve the club before the school will. “The University is monitoring the situation to ensure that the group’s application is treated fairly, and that it receives the same consideration as any other group applying for recognition as a student organization,” Desiree Chen, a spokeswoman for the school, told The Fix via email. She has not responded in the past week for clarification on what the restrictions are on the club and why the school does not just intervene and approve the application. While Turning Point USA has faced problems getting approved on college campuses before, there have been numerous examples in the past several months since the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The national free-market student group reports more than 100,000 people signed up to start clubs. Chapters at Olivet Nazarene University, also in Illinois, as well as St. John’s University in New York City, have faced problems.)
